Vac motors i have it down to 5 min take apart
so in 5 min i have from a 3.5 lb motor
1lb copper bearing
.5lb tin
not even .5lb copper
1.5lb short
separated at best $1.01 value

If i have 500 pounds vac motors one yard will pay .30 or a base amt of .22
another yard will only pay .15 for motors
but more on copper bearing

It's all just a game but the consensus is i Think i can get more if i just bring them all to the yard paying .30 The .30 yard if i sell taken apart motors my profit will be at best .10 per motor
If i take different items to different yards i might get a smidgen more on this or that
So If I go to all the trouble all i seem to see is a .10 maybe .14 profit in taking apart motors I reserve this opinion for only vac motors as of now

All I know is this once you take apart the motor the weights of each metal from the motor does not lie, I see a profit of $50 per 500 lb of motors if taken apart and sold to highest bider UMM 500 lb of motors is going to be 14 to 16 hrs @ $50 profit / & I know if i just drive my car for 14 hrs i will make more then $50
I am not so confused as i thought COULD any one shed some lite on this

the post is a little confusing, but are you asking if it is worth trsring dowwn the mothers, oops I meam motors. if so then that depends on weather your time is worth more doing that or do you have more valuable things to do with your time. I hate vacuume cleaners too much worthless left overs.

In my opinion with such a small profit for all the work involved you should sell them at the best price you can and move on!

You mentioned in another thread you need cash fast! So I would sell these and not waste time on them. This will free up your time to go out and find and or buy something that will help you reach your goal.

Most of my scrap profit comes from motors but I am talking motors out of HVAC systems.

Yes other motors like the large ones Hvac and up I will not just sell as is.
I do analyze to much , but i guess i see that some things not worth taking apart (as of now)
In my town last spring copper was $3.60 for #2 that would change the math, still - Now is Now , I heard steel is going up & copper hanging @ 2.24 for now. By me you can count on copper being at least $1.00 less them LME ( London Market Exchange ) still I read copper is in a deficit so demand is there for now

Yikes dude you say copper is @ $2.24. I am guessing that is for #2 copper. I would shop around a bit for a better price! That is about 65% of spot price.

Yards by me are giving $2.60 and up for #2 copper. That comes out to 76% of spot at this very time in space!

By me its a monopoly all small yards eventually sell to this - one CO. so they set the price. the most one can get is $2.50 but you need 500 lb #2
Also might be that Central, FL gets less people bringing in copper .Is it harder to find ? by you. Since metal is all supply and demand & once the yard see you as a seller of goods ,you then kinda work for them & like i say got one big fish in town.
If injunjoe came by me he might say - ' you guys got lots of metal around here '
I think it all evens out I am happy with the fish as some people might have no yards near them at all.

Being Tampa is a major port we get a great deal of metals come through here!

In a ten mile radius I can off the top of my head count 10 yards. Some are within a mile of each other .
