i trash picked a boom box!!

i found a boombox at my local dump that works, the volume cuts out sometimes but overall it works (pic attached)

If the volume is scratchy spray some CRC (WD40) into the volume potentiometer (remove the knob, spray down the shaft in the gap & keep playing with the volume control).

i cant find any WD40 right now, but ill ask Mum about it, and no one ever replied to my TV set thread

I dont think spraying oil into the volume pot is going to do much. You need electronics cleaner. CRC is definately not the same as WD40!

Hi TPA..I've found many working radio's, boom boxes, stereo's and combo stereo,dvd...even a tv/stereo combo that I use by my workbench. The rest I sell at the swap meet. Keep on pickin' ....there's more where that came from. Don't remember your question on tv's but if you hit the search button I bet you'll get your answer. Good luck.

I have been repairing business phones for over 15 years. for scratchy volume we use Deoxit. It works and lasts for years. A bit pricy but this stuff has made us a lot of money not having to replace scratchy potentiometers.

Usually my working items get c/l'd or rummage saled...over summer I got about 15 boomboxes from one of my regulars, he had done a cleanout for a farmer. Most of them were beat beyond use, or the cd players didn't work...but I found one little gem...a nice little Sanyo am/fm cassette, that once I found a power supply worked great...I brought it to school, and it fits nicely in the bottom drawer of my toolbox when not in use...the guys in my class were giving me crap because it's a "classic", yet whoever i'm working with is always the first to grab it from my box and plug it in...

The original '80's boomboxs are worth money to collectors, the big Sanyo's, the one in the Madonna video.

My 7 speaker Sanyo cost me NZ$300 when I was earning $150 a week, saved for months.

I have some proper 'contact spray' but professional repairs have a correct spray, they also probably have the 1/8the NP fitting that screws over the potentiometer shaft. (big word, had to look it up first)
Also, the WD40 won't do the rubber belts much good.

I used CRC on a friends amp, he was impressed after having to adjust it continuously for the last few years, made a huge difference, everytime someone walked in that day he'd show them, nice amp too. Rotel.
