The stupid thing is, there's camera's at both spots. However, the property owners don't want to get involved.
Any how Karma is a *****, and the "Scrap Gods" are still good to us. They steal one unit, we get two units some where else.
As a side note, When we first started scrapping in 1995, in Vancouver, all the scrappers had baseball bats and we used them.

What if you were to get a couple used dog kennels to leave at the AC shops? It would pay for itself with the profit off one unit saved!
You would have to bolt it down real good but it would be clear that taking anything from inside it is theft.

Just seen on TV locally the cops are looking for the people that has stole more then 20 Ac units in the past few weeks. They show the pictures of the units that were scrapped right in place and they are only taking the coils! All the copper is still there! They took 6 units from a POW=MIA building of some sort.

Sad! These units cost like $10,000 each to replace and the scum are making off with maybe $60.00 worth of coil. I don't use a hatchet for tear downs but I would love to sink it into one of these jerks head!

I woulda taken down the plate number, and told them they picked the wrong house...that I would be calling all m my y scrapper friends, along with every yard in a 25 mile radius and handing their info over, especially if their taking not only scrap, but personal property (the grill.) Honestly, i think it would work much better than a shotgun, lol.

I thought my scrap pile was hit once, I came home after being gone for a weekend to find my stuff spread around...turns out it was just the little girls next door trying to get at an old princess card table and some of those little dolly strollers i had picked up...my neighbor told me he chased them off, and they havn't dug through it since.

Maybe take a pic with a camera phone if it happens again (hopefully not) give it to the police and email it to the yards. People who know they are stealing are not happy to have photographic evidence of it. You may want to post a sign just to make it crystal clear that this stuff isn't up for grabs. A couple hyper rottweilers may be helpful as well.

I have had a couple of problems with other people in the last few weeks, so it pretty much world wide now..

One stole a microwave oven from a pile & they were too stupid to know it was a ali wound transformer in it.
Another saw a car dumped on a property, 1/2 in 1/2 out, got two mates & turned up to remove said car.
Just then the owner happened to pass by.. they jumped in their cars & took off.

    But I expect more.
Camera your areas is all I can think of, hurting people is a 'no no' here, no guns at all.

For evidence, if you spray your metal with a slight spray of water/alcohol with a 'highliter pens' ink in it, it'll show up under a UV light.
Same with the carpenters chalkline chalk dust, its UV florescent.

Even tiny amounts show up under UV, you won't see it under normal light, Cops have the UV light setups, LED torch with UV LED's.

little rock is going to pass new copper laws requiring the yards to get all kinds of id and a thumb print. the illegal scrappers just hit a bunch of schools and did several hundred thousands of damage.

oshkosh requires a license to drive around and scrap.

    restrictions are coming.
