    Suspicious text from CL ad

So I have an ad on CL offering to buy computer scrap.

Got this text about half hour ago...

Hey i got tons of computer scrap for u!!!!! Like rams, cpu and more cN u come today?

My spidey sense went off right away. My first thoughts were that this is someone who saw the ad, picked the most valuable items I list that I will buy, sent me a text and is hoping to get me to show up with a pocket full of cash and then will try and rob my ass. I replied asking for a more detail description of everything they have. No response yet.

Anyone else deal with a situation like this?

Just bring ya "?helper"? err bodyguard. Also bring ya poison, say a sawed off shotgun, pipe, whatever. Then go meet. Keep the weapon within reach and ya helper have a weapon within reach. You will be fine.

I only have had one idiot tried to rob me, but I got almost perfect memory at times. He pulled a gun right within I was loading something in the truck. He told me give me some cash. First thought in my mind was my 3 yr old and I needed to be home for home. 2nd though was the pipe from the boiler job. Grabbed that, closed my eyes, and turned around and swung. **** it was a good hit, home run. Knocked the bastard out. Hit him in the end one more time for good measure. Then grabbed the trusty zip ties, tied his ass to my truck, kicked the gun under the truck. And then yelled at my helper to call 911. He was staring at me in shock the *****. Finally he came back to reality and did what I said....

Still got my metal I was buying too. Cops wernt happy, but I was within my rights to protect myself.

This story is true and no ill effect came to me out of it. Take the advice with a grain of salt. I just happened to drive a truck otr for a few years, so Im kinda used to getting sneak up on. And no, no formal military training whatsoever. Just the hillbilly mentality....

lol I think I'd rather avoid ending up in a situation like that ozzy. I also wouldn't ask a friend to come along in a situation like this. If anything did go wrong I'd feel terrible for getting them involved because of what, my own greed? If I'm ever going to risk putting myself into a real clusterf*ck I will ride solo, any negative consequences should mine and mine alone.

The person still hasn't gotten back to me and pretty sure they won't at this point.

Then the best I can offer is this. Have him meet you at a gas station or donut shop where the cops tend to frequent for fuel or donuts. HEH! Then ya set or any public place really. Forgot to put that in my other post. I hear ya about putting the helper not in danger, but it the name of the game. You never know what pyscho your meeting out there. And the lil old ladies are the worst. This one scared the bejesus out of me. Told me come in for coffee and cake blah blah. I abliged, but looking at her and the house reminded me of Hansel and gretel...LOL!

You could always set up a meet in a busy parking lot with a sample of what they have so you can test the waters. If you go to they're house tell someone the address and when you expect to return so they can call authorities if need be. More times then not I am not far from a forty if things go south.

Everyone is apprehensive these days, with due reason.

How about a local Trading Post for safe deals from web and social networking.
You could sell for others on Ebay and also offer a secure place to do deals. Hum mm ....

Edit: Yippie my 1000 post. Not counting all my deleted posts! LOL

Know any cops? Ask one to tag along with you. If he does not come back and clarify what he has, then mark it off as a no sale and keep on moving.

    Thanks for the input guys.

The person never got back to me as I suspected would happen. But in the future if I am at all apprehensive the meet-up in an open, well lite, busy public area will be the plan.

If I had tons of the good stuff to sell, I wouldn't mind emailing you a few pics.

Don't know if this news was nationwide or just in the Ohio area but there were a couple guys luring people here from out of state with job offers on CL and then robbing and killing them. They met these people in public places to start with and then got them to go off with them, I heard.

Well he did end up texting me back. Also interesting that he waited until right after it got dark to give me an address and asking me to come now. It's actually very close to me so I did a drive by, all the blinds were closed on the house and not a single light was on, did not look occupied at all. Sent a text back saying I could not make it tonight but if he could send me a few pictures of what he has I will meet him tomorrow afternoon. Let's see where this goes.....

Its one of those tough calls if you are on you own. If you have back up, even if its someone who stays outside to call 911 you might be save.

I live in NC and most self respecting thugs here assume everyone has a gun and will shoot. Thats an advantage to living in a state with concel carry permits. Mike.

At this point I would be interested in going to take a look, in the daytime, with a couple of my friends. After all, if there is so much stuff you would need help loading, wouldn't you?

Something very strange is going on though.
