Stealing shopping carts -- really!?

I know when I was a kid I use to find shopping carts down by the river from local grocery stores. As a kid we would take them back to the store and the manager would give us a finders fee for them. I'm sure giving us a couple bucks for bringing a cart back to them was cheaper than buying a new one. I wonder if they still do that.

as a kid i used to push them into the river :/
