True that I have to pay over 240 for full coverage on two vehicles and I am 30 I though insurance was supposed to get cheaper as you get older. I have no points and they keep raising it. Really irritating so I see where you are coming from on the insurance end of things. They just called me and raised my rate 12 dollars per vehicle last month. I have called around for insurance rates and called all the majors and I got outrageous quotes back from all of them. I am not mad at nationwide at all I just can't understand why my darn rate is so high. You being 23 and driving a new vehicle I wouldn't even want to know how much that would be for full coverage on a new vehicle. Paid off vehicles are the best thing ever and beaters are even better because you can just get liability you wreck it just haul it in for scrap and repeat. Just do your research and exhaust every possible route before you make your final decision it took me eight months to finally pull the trigger on getting a new truck. It got so bad I was afraid to let my truck sit over three days without starting it up. Some weekends it would drain the battery for no apparent reason. Nothing like hearing click click click then the lights go out to start your work week out. Then break out the battery charger and wait for it to charge up. It broke my heart to have to turn that truck over to the dealer my dog died in that truck. I honestly almost cried on my way to turn it over to the dealer. I felt like it was worth a million bucks they felt otherwise 1900 and I didn't clean it out at all came with fresh dirt from the scrap yard and had not been washed since last april just the rain.

My first work truck ever was a '73 GMC 3/4 ton 4x. When I repainted it I came up about a foot along the rocker panels, doors and bed etc with bed liner, worked out well.

Down here in texas they have been painting the whole truck and even some cars in the bed liner....it looks pretty clean if you ask me...but great when off road as you dont worry about getting them scratches in your paint.

When I was working for my uncle in Mesquite I met a guy who would fill his 5th wheel trailer with body parts, take those body parts up north sell them to the parts yards, then fill his trailer with transmission and motors, and drag those back to Dallas. He'd repeat that every time, and made a killing doing. Point of that, his truck was a 1985 Ford diesel that he had rebuilt over and over. That truck had almost no amenities, but it did the job for hundreds of thousands of miles.

$240 a month for 2 and full coverage? I wish....that's just liability for 2 vehicles here in Jersey.

$108/month for me. I believe I was quoted $240/month for full coverage for my truck and my wife's cruiser.

I am waiting for my policy to cancel before I change it.

I pay 200 a month for full coverage on my truck both my cars and camper. Boat is another 25 a month. If your a veteran you cant do better than USAA in my opinion for insurance. SHow me another insurance company that gives you a check at the end of the year if they had a surplus. I average about little less than 1 month of free payment with the check every year. And the longer your with them the cheaper your rates get.

I have heard of USAA, and if they ever went beyond military, like GEICO did, then I might give them a try.

$200 is definitely not a bad deal, for everything you have insured.

Some of you are getting hosed. I pay 385.52 and that covers 2 vehicles for 6 months. Granted it's liability only but that's all I wanted.

Remember your vehicle only gets better or worse you have to figure out when its taking that turn for the worse and mine was at that point. I am not concerned about the payments I am more impressed with the new features in the truck heated/ac seats Eco boost better gas mileage and my gf feels safe driving with the newborn in it and that alone is worth the money every month till its paid off. Gotta make sure the the third generation scrapper makes it to be old enough to process scrap and surpass his old man.

Yeah well all of that is fine. But when u have your own business and stuff your cant just go out and buy new trucks or you will never get ahead.I mean you see these companies riding around in there new 2012 truck that cost 60k they are paying on for 7 years at about 500 a month. All i have to say to that is no way. When i can buy a 4k truck that will do what there 60 k will and have no payment. So screw abunch of payments.

You really should start a poll asking peoples opinion on dumping 10000 into an old truck or using that as a down payment for something much newer with way less miles on it. Vegetable oil is great but the kits are still expensive and that's even more money you are spending to upgrade an old truck. I guess it just doesn't make sense to me but its your money not mine. Either way I hope you make a good choice and it turns out for the best no one I know likes to spend money on top of money heck sometimes I feel like I should put my money in a pile and burn it but that is only on days when I feel like I lose money which really doesn't happen but if i don't get pissed at myself who is going to I work for myself.

Well if you went and spent 30k plus on a new truck to work out of like a true scrapper then you are not all there and that is dumb as hell.

Focker what's a true scrapper considering I have cleaned out, whole steel mills, auto plants, foundrys, etc. Would that make me a true scrapper or an average Joe according to you?

ok this has turned alittle on the dark side (star wars line) so lets just say this

There are pros to having a brand new truck and to having a older truck.

Pistone just wanted something that was a turn key option and does not mind spending the money on the monthly payment and if he can afford that then more power to him.

I on the other hand would like to keep my over head as low as I can so I can have parts in the truck replaced and have the truck look nicer with half the costs....but its not a turn key deal and will take alot of money upfront and take time as the truck will be down for the repairs/upgrade.

But this does sound like it would make a good poll type post.

Easy if you are looking into purchasing a forklift might i suggest a Escalera?

    http://www.escalera.com/

It's a stair climbing hand truck that is also a fork lift. Super small and light weight can be brought to jobs to lift heavy things.

I was using one the other day. SO AWESOME!

I have looked into other things but not that...just looked into it tho...don't think this would work for what I need. Some of the boxes I have are over 3,000 pounds and on top of that I load things on and off my trailer (stack gaylords on top of each other) when I do a pick up...have to empty the top one then the bottom one to get the trailer empty takes a good bit of time lol.

I drive to some places that are a good few hours away....so when I am away...I load up that baby up the best I can.

P.s if you keep an eye out...down here in Dallas you can pick up a forklift for 2 to 3grand....thing is...you have to check them out..some are GREAT...others need "work" and alot of it...but the ones that are good..sell fast as hell. So I am just keeping an eye out and when a good deal comes my way...its mine.

I drove through the truck lot tonight. My serpentine belt is apparently slipping (It's been squeaky since I got my truck back from having an alternator put in), not charging the battery. Stopped for gas and DEAD..grrrrrr I've been battling with Tires...All very frustrating. I've been debating a newer truck, an SUV (since I do mostly escrap), a trailer and keep limping this 22 year old Chevy....Decisions, Decisions...

And wow! I though my insurance was high......but I guess I'm just cheap. I have full Cov on my 09 Altima....but liability on my 02 mustang and my 90 chevy 1500 and I pay like $90 a month...I'll stop my *****ing right here and now.

And to chime in on the fix it/trade it in debate...do what makes you happy, and who cares what anyone else thinks....but keep in mind. new engine and new paint....there's still brakes, rotors, exhaust, bushings, shocks, tires, etc that WILL go bad....it WILL nickle and dime you to death! $10,000 is 14+ months of payments on a TURN KEY option, and nobody says you have to sell your old truck.

True...but I replaced all the brakes my self not long ago (upgraded them for more stopping power) truck has no exhaust...I cut it all out and it points straight down to the ground.....rotors where all replaced....person before me did most bushings...I have lifetime shocks.

Tires wont matter if you have a new truck or not...lol they have to be replaced...but I have new rubber on her as well...did that when I did the brakes when I first got her.

Personaly I would rebuild the old truck easy. Knowing how you like the veggie stuff I would just rebuild the motor if its a 7.3L. Instead of paint I think I would go with a vinyl wrap for advertising.
