    Nice dumpster find

I make it a regular occurrence to look in all 6 dumpsters at my apartment complex every single time I pull into the parking lot. I've pulled several computers, a few car batteries, an oven, metal doors, misc metal, etc. It's kind of funny, I seem to find A LOT of microwaves...like 2 or more a week.

Today, however, I looked in to see a lot of metal scraps. I started pulling it all out only to find more. I found a bunch of breakers, probably like 6 or 7 brass faucets, a breaker box, a bunch of AL molding, 2 EXTREMELY thick power cables, (about 1.5 inches in diameter and a foot or 2 long each) several AL pans and trays, back boxes, a bike, a stove hood, etc, etc. But, upon taking one more look, I found a box that I hadn't opened yet. Inside, were between 8 and 15 of those electric stove heating coils, all NEW IN THE PACKAGE. I looked them up online, they sell from anywhere between $15 and $25 a piece.

I may have just hit my 'dumpster dive jackpot.' Not only do I have the coils, but probably about 5 lbs of #2 CU, 10 lbs AL, 5 lbs brass, and 40 lbs steel. And on top of that, my yard just rose the prices on CU and AL. <3

Yeah that's great and all...but...CAN I SCRAP IT!?

It seems to me that some of this stuff may be coming from the maintenance guys. Have you tried talking to them? You may be able to nab some of this stuff before it hits the dumpsters!

Thank you! About the breakers, how do I know if they are bad?

Yeah, you're right...maybe I should talk to the maintenance guys.

Perseverance pays off. I like the idea of talking to maintenance. Good luck.
