My yard took it as #2 and I didn't have to snip a thing, and that price for the tubes is very reasonable.

Fair enough. Yeah i tried to take it in like that, they got all pissy. Told me i had to cut all the little bits off. Reckon i could get dirty price just as is. I'll try it dirty and see how much i get. Hell maybe it'll add up.

Wow that is a great price. Is this a certified glass recycling center then? That is honestly the cheapest price I have ever heard.

It's free. My dump takes them for free. They have a special section where you drop them off at. They then pallet them up, and another company trucks them out. It costs me about $20 in gas to get there and back.

And yes, it is a certified glass recycler. I believe it is URT. Could be mistaken. But it's state funded so it is legit.

Yeah Universal Recycling Technologies is what the acronym stands for. They are a pretty big player in the glass game so it would not surprise me. We use to sell our whole screens to them but we have since switched to another recycler. At the current time we are getting reimbursed for monitors due to this new law here in Illinois. Not making a lot off of them, but heck those 2 dollar bills add up when you send out 900-1000 every two weeks.

Hmm. Is that ONLY a 1 state law? Or is it something the feds passed down and states chose on? Because if i could actually get paid for these things...

    Hoss,

Illinois requires manufactures to pay for the proper disposal of all electronics. So we collect the material, like monitors and Tv's and they pay to have it recycled. Also Illinois has a landfill band on all electronics and it is illegal to throw them into the trash, so if you get caught you can get a 25-50 dollar fine. It is a state law, and I know other states have legislation on ewaste but I don't know how many states require manufactures to pay the disposal of the glass.

So I am watching with interest all this talk about monitors. I haven't broken any down because I have heard you can get electrocuted doing so. Is there a way to do it safely?

I think we pretty well covered it in this thread, just keep reading as it's kinda long. Kinda humorous, Sorry Hoss! You know how a singer gets money every time their song is played, I wonder if it would work like that here? Hoss would be rich,,, lol. http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/showt...highlight=hoss
