I know at least in Cincinnati a lot of people are complaining about the theft rate. The city (initially) was trying to answer those complaints. The first attempt failed last year, supposedly this initiative was tabled for a few months but suddenly they sneaked it through.

We've got lots of abandoned/vacant houses here...Personally I've lost thousands of $ to scrap thefts. A lot of folks aren't thinking about their liberty when they asked for the laws, and they don't have very good opinions of what we do.

Just read the comment sections anywhere there's an online news article - people talk about theft, sketchy guys prowling the trash and dumpsters, guys breaking stuff at the curb on trash day, etc.

This industry needs a Public Relations campaign
