First trash run

Well broke my proverbial cherry tonight....hope I can say that...lol.....went around the neighborhood tonight for first time. Apprehensive at first, but when I saw a vcr on top of a can it was like the angels were singing. Got out of car, popped the trunk and was on my way. Stayed at it for an hour and a half and scored some refrigeration tubing and some copper wires. Wife called me Fred G Sanford when I got home...all in good fun. Gonna search forum now to find out what is worth taking out of the vcr....

in the VCR you have Aluminum motor, ins 3, low grade board, and steel. honestly rip out the insulation 3 and call it a night in my book cause getting to the motors is 50 screws later and some very tiny bits. motor weighs around 1/3 of a pound

Thats the first thing i purchased last week. No wire stripper set up so figured they would come in handy.

Way to go Bcatcher...I can tell that you are going to fit in very well around here. Now, if you and the wife get in an argument, you can just put your hand on your heart and say, "It's the big one!" and maybe that will diffuse the argument some.

Tear it apart. Break everything down. That goes for everything you pick for the first time. You will quickly learn what is worth dismantling and what is not. Weigh the diffrent components to see its true scrap value. Consider the time it takes and what the minimum you're willing to work for. It's also a great earning lesson how things work.

glad to see you in the trenches brass. Vcr is a few simple items- Power cord, aluminum main motor and smaller ejection motor a couple of boards the rest is shred. There are a couple of small brass pieces on the larger motor but that is all i have ever found. Don't play nicey nice with those motors rip em out there only attached to thin steel or else you play how many screws do you need to hold thing together???? trust me you don't want to know the answer lol

E waste is 7 to 9 cents a lbs here, I just cut under cord and toss it in the corner with the small printers and fax machines that just a pain in the arse to brake down,

This thread is a year old...pretty sure BC has better things to do with his time now..

Wow cant believe its been a year already. Getting heavy into the computers the last few months but still go to curbco once a week at least. One thing you cant beat is free, and there is always something out there on trash nights.

I don't go out of my way looking for curb stuff, but if I'm driving by and see something that looks promising setting beside the trashcan then it's fair game.

On my way into work tonight I see a craftsman gas snowblower on the curb. Took me 2 mins to get it into the back seat...lol.

I brake down vcr's all the time and find them easy to do. Some times getting the tape drive thing out can be a pain but most of the time it takes 5-10 min. The main motor only has three screws and the other motor only has two screws. I also get a pretty good price for low grade boards. Some of the older vcr's have a 1or2 lbs transformer.
