well broke it all the way down. Not much there. I kept all the wire, just because I am a junkie for that stuff. Thanks to dune maul, dumpster dee and Russell. Now I know a bit more than I did yesterday. One question....there is a silver wheel about two inches round I put magnet on it but didn't stick...is this aluminum?

That is a reading and recording head, I assume they are alum. but not 100% sure on that. I don't know if the motor is inside or underneath that spins it..there is a silver wheel about two inches round I put magnet on it but didn't stick...is this aluminum?

i think so too, and if i recall correctly, that's the part some hobbyists and tinkerers use when building model robots and things. Also I believe on one show I saw a guy using it to adjust or rotate a camera he'd set up in a balloon or somewhere to keep watch on an eagles nest. I think they work on 9v or maybe 12v ? IF i recall correctly

yup! someone told me they were standing around out in the yard one day, talking about how you could sell anything on ebay, and one of them picked up some pine cones and said "i'll bet you i can sell these!" welp, he did! annnd, that's how it was back then

Those 2" shiny wheels are in fact aluminum. Other than that and the wiring there really isn't much in a VCR. Some really old ones might have a moderately sized transformer in there but thats it.

Yes those round thingys are electric motors and thier is a smaller electric motor also. My tard pays $.34 per lbs for electric motors. Also low grade board. Older modles have a transformer same price as an electric motor. Might be ic chips on the board.

I always break down VCRs/DVD players, and small crap like that. Gives me something to do while I watch TV, due to the fact I think I have ADD. I can't just sit and watch a show I gotta be fidgiting with something, lol. I personally don't bother with chips though.

If one has the time collecting all parts have value . Motors .30 lb Any thing with copper is called copper bearing at .24 per lb apparently there are many items that are Copper B
tin door knobs are considered CB. I feel CB is a material that if ever there was a item that was the equivalent of give the scraper a bone it's CB ,It's really all around and pays well
VCRs have plenty of little transistors , hard to clean so just start a CB bucket .

with a little dismantling a scraper can save in buckets
now when you start really dismantling all you do is diversifier items into different buckets . If you come upon an item deemed to hard to clean just put in appropriate bucket.
Aluminum tends to in the long run need a 40 gallon pail

Aluminum needs 4 buckets: sheet, cast, extruded and dirty. (my yard pays sheet price for extruded so I only need 3.)
Copper : (2) only #1 and #2 for stripped. Insulated: (1) all together for down to 18 guage. Smaller: (1)Christmas lights, telephone wires (except the wire on the pole...it isn't copper) and other tiny wires...called "communication wire" at my yard.
This is starting out; hopefully you'll need more as you fill them up....positive thinking !

Communication wire has a good amt of copper for its size 1 pound wire = a touch more then 1/2 lb copper

I am a confirmed copper head I seek wire I get copper #2 considering all the unique striping methods from tools as low as $50 and other methods , i'll say this most people eat fish they have made it strict that dolphins be safe They don't talk about the collateral damage to other fish it's massive. Veal well thats baby cows kept crated and in the dark a sad life . The pursuit of money for us all is positive only in that we have it .most to all that we enjoy food - TV - computers - soap - paint - clothing ALL stuff is a negative to the environment . i've only ever seen two prices for ALUM. here in Va. clean and dirty. and all insul. wire, regardless of size is same price here. So that cuts down on my buckets a bit. All of my small elect. motors now go to the wifey as she has found she likes pulling the wire out of most of them. I pop the caps off, she does the rest.

So the '2inch Alum VCR head thingy'... would most yards consider this a copper bearing motor or w/e?
I just wanna be as organized as possible for my first trip down lol, then i guess i'll learn all the details.
