Pays off to do comparison shopping.

So, I was in the process of tearing down 30 tv's and pc monitors. Took a break and called 2 of the yards I use.

Well, the one that takes ferrous and non ferrous told me that copper was $3.10/lb and that aluminum was at $0.45/lb

Then I called my other yard that only takes non ferrous. They told me copper was $3.25/lb and that aluminum was $0.50/lb

So, needless to say I will be using the one that is obviously paying me more

Especially since I have a LOT of insulated wire (some will be stripped and some not), and brass items.

Then, as I was sitting there, and thinking to myself (MAN, I was some place local bought the tv circuit boards, since it is NOT worth to ship them anywhere). So I called a local escrap buyer that I know of that accepts ANYTHING electronic.

He said that they are obviously low grade and that it was only worth $0.02-$0.06lb so obviously not going to get rich, and will probably not even worry over it, but at least I know.

Then, we got to talking about other stuff and how they accept it, etc. Then he told me that all escrap items was worth MORE broken down.

I told him, that I appreciated his honestly as most would say (we take them either way) and left it alone, and then chances would be that I turn them in as whole and not make as much off of them.

The first TV that I dismantled today had MORE goodies inside then I was counting on.

I live all the copper, CBM's, and aluminum from the boards.

Tomorrow I will take a picture of the copper yoke as I am saving them all to take one picture with them all.

The black trailer in the back is one of my trailers. As you can see, it is currently holding the other TVs that I was dismantling.

I call this my copper cigarette lol

small cbm. almost had missed it.

Don't forget the big black xformer with the red/orange wire that hooks to the tube. That's usually a couple of pounds by itself.

I got that 2. It was a B.I.T.C.H to remove from the first one. I was doing my best not to damage the plastic so I could put it back on so Goodwill will accept the tv.

I will take a picture of those tomorrow as well so everyone who is unfamiliar can see one up close.

Well sorry to say, but it won't be on me saving them. It will be on me gutting them to pieces and tearing out the insides for some cold hard cash!

Speaking of comparison shopping, my Blackberry gave up. So I headed over to the Sprint store to see what could be had for a Benjamin or less. Found one I liked, but after all the "discounts" it came out to $158 out the door. Not interested in doing that, so I bounced on over to Best Buy and the same model was on sale for 29.99. Walked out paying less than 32 bucks.

If anyone is curious, it's an HTC Evo Design 4G. Got it yesterday, but so far, so good.

Now that's some pretty dang good comparison shopping there. My old smartphone broke when I accidentally threw against wall. Think I'm gonna head over to Best Buy.

That's a sharper pic than my Samsung digital camera. I've put a few of those blurry ones on here,,

Yeah, I think it's also smart to tell your primary yard that a competing yard is paying more. That's also why it's a good idea to have more than one yard in the area. If there was just the single yard, they could control the prices and keep them low.

I thought that I had read on other threads or posts that the low grade cards would bring shred price. Wouldn't this be around .10 to .12 lb. at least? I have approximately 40 lowgrade boards out of crts and numerous smaller ones. I've been debating about how to handle and will probably remove all copper and aluminum and put the boards in the shred pile.

Might want to just stop by your yard and take in a sample to show them so they don't reject your whole load. Some yards buy as shred and others don't.
