Interesting turn of events, and a BIG THANK YOU

So I took a load into the yard today and while I'm in line for the non-ferrous one of the buyers (who yes, knows me by name!) comes up and says, "Sarah, you need to hang around after you get paid because the owner wants to talk to you."

I'm thinking, "crap what did I do?!"

Turns out he wanted to offer me a job!! Which is absolutely awesome since I started scrapping a few months ago because I got laid off.

I go in next week for an official interview. So if nothing else, this forum has helped me get good enough at scrapping to get noticed, and maybe even get hired! I've learned about 70% of what I know from this forum and the other 30 by just getting in there and taking it apart.

THANK YOU to all who teach and share on here. You've helped me learn a new skill-set and maybe landed me a much needed job.

My only question is... CAN I STILL SELL THEM MY SCRAP?!

Well when you get in the inside use what you learned here to your advatage. If they dont do escrap then tell them you will start buying it from the shred pile at 2 times shred if they will just have the guys pull it out. Good luck on your new job.

PartTime, that is exactly what I was thinking on the Escrap. I watched several guys toss a ton of computers into their shred pile today...

well make sure and bring it up to the boss when you go into talk to him about the job. Could give you a leg up on getting the job if your giving him a way to make more money before you even start.

I'm sure you can still sell to them and it'll get you an inside line like the others said on stuff to buy from them. Then you can break it down further and that would not be cost effective for them to do so.

I am so excited to hear of your success. Just getting invited to interview says alot about you. Your tenacity to take on scraping to keep youself going will give you a leg up on other employees. If/when you get a job try not be judgmental of the other empoyees who will appear to be lazy. Mike.

some people are more comfortable working for some one else, and thats ok, but if your not. think about the anchor chain behind the offer.

Sounds like a good opportunity to me!

She can learn a lot working at the yard! Nothing says she can't also scrap. I bet she will be getting the very best price for her scrap.

Olddude I hear you sir, I do. If I was ten years younger, or single, or not trying to start a family,or not trying to buy a house I would sell my car and get a truck and jump into this with both feet. But alas I need stable employment to get the mortgage loan and unfortunately they don't think that scrapping counts. My husband doesn't make enough to qualify for the loan alone.

I am sure that I could not scrap effectively pregnant as well, lol! Not sure if I could work as a buyer in the yard environment pregnant either, but I could hope they would move me into the office when I was the size of a house.

I have some interviews with the city line up too, so I may not jump on this job at the yard if they are not going to pay me well. I would love the opportunity to learn from them and have a better chance of making the most from my scrap in the future, whether full-time or part-time.

Anyway, not to just throw my personal life out there, but basically just wanted to say I would LOVE to be my own boss and believe me I see the tremendous potential in the e-scrap market but I'm just not sure this is the right time in my life and marriage to pursue it.

Thanks for all the congrats and I'll let you all know what I decide. If nothing else I will definitely continue scrapping until the right job comes along. Thanks again

agree completely with you. truth be said, if I were offered a job right now , im not so sure I wouldn't take it.

P.S. if you can get an Obummer job. (city/county/fed) take it, pay is better, bennies are better, retirement better) he** we are probably all going to be working for the government soon any way, might as well get some seniorty .

. just sayin.
