    12.5lb transformer in a stereo

    Yes I said stereo. Found this stereo, think it was part of an old multi-tiered system. Anyway it felt heavy when I picked it up and when i opened the cover this thing was covered front to back and left to right with boards full of i/c chips and that big transformer. Needless to say I am in love with copper now and have begun tearing down the t-former to see how much is in there. I can see three bands of it and each band is wrapped i think with our nemesis "degaussing".Well off to work, will hopefully post a few pics tomorrow of the results. Good night all.     Some transformers got way too much "tape" I throw them in with motors, 2 thin layers and then the main portion is all I'm willing to deal with.

    I found a mid 90's stereo boombox the other day, maybe an aiwa, not sure but the screen seemed like it contained silver, and possibly gold. Inside was a chunky alum heat sink that weighed prob 2 lbs, then there was a huge transformer with copper windings,a circuit board with goodies, quite a few motors for the cd player portion. I was pleasantly suprised.
