I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""
You quickly learn to love monitors, TVs, and anything else you can get your hands on. Most TVs take me only 2-3 mins to take apart, pull the boards, wire, yoke, and put cover back on. Then it goes into my "trash" pile. I'm a very part-time scrapper. Most of my metal comes from the old TVs, electronics, and the like that I get from storage units (main hobby). While I don't do trash routes, cold calls, and the like to leave that stuff to the people who do this for real income, I do pick up the odds and ends.
If you don't want to deal with the other metals you can do like I do. Hit the thrift stores and flea markets looking for less then scrap value priced items. You would be amazed at what you can find some weekends. Hit up estate auctions and the like. Few years ago before I got into storage auctions and scrapping I was at an old country store auction. One of the lots was a pile of iron pipe, ceramic pots, fence post, etc. Sold for $50. If I knew then what I know now from these boards I'd of bought the lot.
If really only want to deal with copper hit your local bank and buy a few boxes of pennies. Pull out all the 1981 (82 was a mix year) pennies and toss them in a jug. Wait a few more years when they do away with the penny and it's legal to melt them and turn them in.
Love televisions. easy to breakdown, good amount of copper, small transformers on the boards, heat sinks(small but they add up)speakers(great magnets for the tool bench), low grade boards, power cord, small com wire if u keep it. i am sure i am missing something but it is 5 a.m. Only bad part is the left overs and the remote possibily of getting shocked if u r not careful.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” John Wayne-- The Shootist
