Wow! Breaking down tv's sucks!

After all the threads on here about dismantling televisions, thought I would give it a try, especially since there are so many to be had out at the curb here.

I dismantled six today, ranging from a tiny 10" screen to a monster I could hardly lift by myself. That's a lot of work for that little bit of copper and circuit boards! I'll let you know how I feel about it after I get paid.

Now for a nice cool beverage...

I don't feel that way at all . I see each tv as a true source of copper there is a value per TV . AL CU CU bearing wires - there is a mess also - but deal with it. nothing is really free. I mine for copper each day if your lucky as you look for copper you find metals that allow you not to sell off your copper in desperation , you sell when you feel the need.

True copper may not be worth $10 a lb some day but you never know. It might also.

I've had a stack of old school satellite electronics that I have been putting off for months so today gave it a go and after about the 50th POS tiny screw I was about ready to huck it all in the shred pile.

Burly I'm starting to think after reading your posts scrappin may not be your thing....You might wanna stay in the office and pay someone to do your grunt work....I will have to agree with copperhead for once....Tv's are an excellent source of income and are easy to come by....After you have done a couple of thousand like a lot of the experienced scrappers on this forum then let us know what you think

Your well on your way just make sure you can dispose of the leftovers

Check your local yards and find which one's buy low grade circuit boards....You just have to call around till you find a yard you want to deal with

You don't wanna get paid?? ....Find a local scrap yard and they will weigh them and pay you for them

Heres where im at, i just want to deal in copper, brass, scrapped motors, and high grade computer parts, i dont want to have to use all my space to store ?shred?....is this stupid im new maybe im just not **grasping something....tell me more

U can deal only with those items...Copper etc....In my experience you will end up making more money off shred than anything else as long as you have the ability to haul it....I don't give any metal away....I sell every piece I can get my hands on but to each his own....If you don't have a truck you probably need one....My long be f150 stores the majority of my scrap unless it's something I might want to try to resale for better than scrap value....Anyways good luck

I just use the truck bed as storage for all the shred.....Copper and stuff like that can be kept in the garage....To each his own

Igigi, If you don't like messing around with alot of the finer points, then just sell your items whole to a real scrapper and let them worry about the mess and having to haul it to a yard. If your getting the computer stuff free then you can make up to $5.00 ea. and not have to worry about it.

Actually the work doesn't bother me, but electricity makes me, um, trepidatious?
