With a little 'up-an-at-em” attitude I've landed a few gigs this past week.
My local Kmart has agreed to allow me to do their monthly hauling of all metal and broken non-salable electronics (that is, the equipment that's not on the selling shelf).
After shaking some hands, I finally landed my first computer supplier from a local repair shop at no charge (although I plan on sending them Starbucks coffee and donuts twice a month and some gift cards)
I'm also sponsoring a charity through my school where they are collecting old electronics to raise money and I'm their purchaser.
It's a learning process. Although I'm in no position of authority to give advice, I will say that patience is truly a virtue when networking. Many people I meet are too quick to try and close a deal when they network. Try to form a relationship first and position yourself to make the sale. I'm not a fan of trying to land a major deal within the first email or phone call, although this strategy works for some people. What's been your take on the best networking strategies?
