i remove and recycle all the non metal i can from everything i turn in and they notice when grading my loads. on the few trips that i dont have any white goods all of my"shread" is clean enough that they usually give me the white goods price anyway. i like getting the extra money $, and i have more time than $.
i got some help by talking to the guys at the scales and letting them know that i was a noob who wasnt trying to pull anything sketchy, but just dont know any better and if they see anything ive done or could have done to please let me know for the next time. this really helps to get to know the rules at the different yards so you can make more$. i also look at what other guys have in their trucks and might ask them a question or 2 while wating at the cashiers window. even people who arent real friendly are usually in a better mood when they are about to get paid.but some poeple are just D.B.s no matter what.
i pick up every little piece of metal i find and throw in one of the five gallon buckets i keep in the car. every few days i dump them into my seperate piles.i have taken in 75lb buckets of screws before.they laugh at the scales sometimes but every little scrap of metal adds weight.
good luck and keep reading.with some hard work you will soon be seeing $$ everywhere.
THX MUCH! this sounds like how i been doing it/will be doing it/learning how to do it. I
have started pickin up metal i see like brackets or bigger nuts/bolts/washers to add weight to my
microwave shell/(?) hoping they'll take it all. if not i cleaned up a bunch around my neighborhoods =)
