    taking it easy today

    killed it over the weekend got 3 cars yesterday went non stop daylight to dark, went and got one this morning, i busted the brass valves off of some oxygen tanks i got from the yard a while ago. yesterday we fed the pizza to the yard, 13 large pizzas, 6 dessert pizzas and 6 orders of breadsticks from papa johns and 6 12 packs of sodas, i took the car in this moring and got several thank yous i may go mess aound with some tanks in a little bit but i probably wont do much unless i get a call. we got another truck you guys gonna like got it last night, its stuck in 4 wheel drive, my buddy is more of the mechanic than me he said some stuff while he was under it, thinks it can be fixed cheap its a 94 with 130000 miles with a 351 its nicer than the pic looks, i was gonna give it to my girlfriend(yep we back together) but she didn't want it anyway here it is and hope everyone has a great day



    parttime, he said he may trade the truck you like for it or he may trade the jaguar, whatever he decides we gonna have a pretty nice car to sell

    Ever notice the two (work, having GF(s)) go hand in hand?

    When I see a woman driving something that big I always assumed they are not single.
    (back when I was single).

    Nice truck! looks like the same "generation" ford as my pick-up.
    Just did the brakes (one caliper, both disc rotors/pads, wheel bearings)...
    Those 4x4 hubs are a pain/nightmare at first!
    Ford used so many axles, manual locking hub or automatic got me, not to mention various years.
    Couldn't even get good information on actual ford truck forums.
    (Half the guys there were still confused) ...Not to mention since it has button for 4x4 one mechanic told me it was auto-locking hub...
    Chilton ONLY shows auto-locking, and drawing of dust-cap only for manual,
    so I thought the idiot ('nother story) I bought it from had left pieces out...(spring, small bearing , etc. for automatic locking, learned today by second look).

    Shop had quoted me $740 for one side (WTF??? I P'd them off with my reply, had it towed home, was hoping to get their scrap metal reg. ,won't now).
    Shop lost a gear so I'm scared to use 4x4 (don't need it , but good for re-sale, and owner manual chart has 2000lb. more towing cap. than 2WD. (?)

    Went out this morning and noticed puddle of gasoline, drops of gas on front of tank,
    Another 'EFFIN "LEARNING EXPERIENCE" ...Back to public library's Chilton book section (I am cheap, no "Thrifty" is all). Learned how to relieve pressure, remove fuel pump ,check fuel pump o-rings, (If it's the tank I'll still need to swap the pump).

    Looking online found out: Ford recalling '97-'01 1.1million trucks for gas tank straps... (wrong years)

    Looks like a [thrifty] tank on J.C. whitney here.
    Top one will probably outlast the truck (?).

    A lot of the parts (little hub parts) are "only at dealership" I was told.
    Heard NAPA store has them though.
    So I'm taking scrap easy myself too today, although I need to burn off this half-tank I just put last night at nearing $4/ gallon first...perhaps I have to scrap.(gas can in back in-case), back to it.

    DumbD, what year is your Ford? Both my 95' and 96' had the straps rubbed through the rear tanks.

    i called it a truck you may not be able to tell but its a bronco, with the pic i showed it kinda looks like a truck with a camper

    I knew it was a Bronco, but I call them "trucks" as well is all. I bet the hubs, 4x4 parts and many other parts (front clip) are same as the pick-up those years (generation they call it IIRC ford is on 11 and these are like "9th generation" IIRC).
    Also the two tone paint years had an "eddie bauer" edition with leather interior,
    I'd love to find one at junkyard and buy the seats/ interior for $100 or so. I'd probably mess them up scrapping though.

    Mine's a '95.
    For some reason there's a working rear tank flap, no rear tank though!
    It does look like leak from front strap, but there's a plastic cover on the front of tank,
    also it could be the fuel pump leaking above that?
    Best thing would be it needs a pump o-ring or something...can't drop it out until I get some of the gas out.
    (In suburbs now). I might ship the tank to my buddy's in the country IF that's the problem.

    Got the supercab so I finally can take my family places without needing to leave one child with baby sitter.
    It's an awesome truck, just needs the normal 17 year old truck stuff.
    I get to learn along the way too since I'll buy another when it dies.

    I got my last truck in 06, it's a 93 Ranger 4x4, and soon after found a CD on Ebay for less than ten bucks best as I remember, 5 or 6 maybe. It's an original CD same as they used in the shop at the Ford houses. I thought it only covered Rangers and Broncos, but apparently it covers ever truck they made. When DumbD mentioned not being able to find information, i wanted ask his year and model too. It tells everything about those trucks, it isn't always easy to find, but it's on there. I was trying to figure something out once, I believe a end on a wring harness or something, and it told ever wire on it, how many amps or ohms under every circumstance. Not sure you can still find em, i think this guy disappeared shortly after, mighta been coppywrited or something, but the disk i got is labeled by Ford

    ah not highjacking at all, im just suprised people read my crap so much for my easy day never happens we got call for 3 cars tomorrow already, so i went out and busted up some extinguishers and cashed out a few hundred, the first one is a honda passport so we may have to hang on to it a little while before we scrap it out so i wanted to make sure we had enough cash to get all three, we are still sitting on an aurora and the bronco, its sooooo much easier when they are crap to scrap but we do make a little extra when we hang on to them

    So cory are you just doing o2 tanks for the yard or all of there tanks they get in that may contain compressed gases?

    they give me 4 4x4x4 boxes which i now think are called gaylords, they give me o2 tanks mainly probably right at half, some forklift propane tanks with the valves out, and some other stuff i dont know what they are kinda look like a bomb that would fit on a ww2 plane, and believe it or not more fire extinguishers, and some kind of aluminum tanks with chambers in them with an opening at each end. with the conversation i had with the yard manager i would be getting all tanks from now on

    Just be careful compressed gases are the most dangerous thing in scrap. Especially when you are trying to de-engergize something of that nature. There are companys that go from scrap yard to scrap yard removing and cutting up gas cylinders. Its a niche business. Just be aware of any and all hydraulic acumulators they have 3000 psi of air pressure inside them or more and have killed numerous burners and scrap yard workers. I have cut up I don't know how many of them and always place them under something that weights over 10,000 lbs to cut a hole in them to de-engerize it so I can cut it in half. It will shoot out hydrualic fluid 30 feet and hiss with air coming out for a minute or a minute and half. VERY DANGEROUS AND NOTHING TO PLAY WITH. Just be careful the last thing I want anyone to do is get hurt.

    thanks very much pistone, the only experience i had until yesterday was a couple of fire extinguishers and learned my lesson early. i had four or five of the oxygen tanks that had pressure in them, once they started hissing i was gonna lay them to the side like i do extinguishers and let them leak out. on these tho i foundout pretty quick have an o-ring designed to burst once the valve is turned first time scared the .... outa me sounds like a 22 going off, anyway saftey glasses ffrom now on i think i got them all unless theres some more at the bottom of the boxes. im dont know what a hydraulic accumulator is but all the big tanks they gave me have holes in them that i have seen they just need to be cut in half, plus none of them are heavy enough to have fluid in them. i agree safety first, part of me wishes they all had the valves still on they are not as heavy as the extinguisher ones but they are heavy brass and probably over half a lb apiece

    I think I have one in the pile at work somewhere when it surfaces again I will take a picture of it and send it to you can't miss em they are an 1 inch or 3/4 inch thick with a rubber bladder and round on both ends with a two inch pipe coming out one side and the other has what appears to be a small nipple kinda like a greaser nipple but only a little bigger. They weight about 400 lbs a piece I would imagine. They are mainly on hydraulic tanks attached to them and not small tanks 100 gallons or bigger and they usually come in pairs but I have seen some of them with five or more in a row.
