If it doesn't become obvious to me right away how the case is designed to open out comes the pry bar. I used to spend a bit of time to do it properly but when your break down pile is above your head and time is limited nuts to that. Just wear safety glasses if you're going to go that route.

Several variations out there but basically a nail puller. Stanley also makes a small flat bar called a "Wonder Bar" that is quite handy. I think they called it "Wonder Bar" cuz most times you "wonder where the hell it is?"
