$6 X 28 = 168 that would have been my highest bid. I figure $5 per tower plus a little extra for the other items which I don't expect much from the extras. Mike.

The printers are the good ones (well most of them) they are the printer, copyer, scanner combo's they have mid grade boards 3 or 4 moters lots of wires and heavy steel. I also save the mylar from the key boards, I dont do the moniters, the towers might not have the hd. I wouldn't pay more than 100 but than again thats just me if I can't get it for free then I pass. To much free stuff out there.

Problem for me is that the auctions in nys and NYC people are bidding way over what I can to make a profit. Have my eye on a sealed bid auction for 29000lbs of fired shell casings. Trying to find out when they previously sold this stuff and what winning bid was. Should be a record of it since it is being sold by city and has to be public knowledge. Have to call on Monday. I figure as long as none of the scrap yards are bidding I may have a shot...yeah right. Brass is going for somewhere around 2 bucks lb so if I can get it for half that I can turn a nice profit. Yards be me take it and firing caps do not have to be removed.

Lot of farm auctions out here, every time I go to one, after gas paid for, usually can double my money on what I buy but have gotten skunked at auctions too.

I've been watching different lots on surplus auction sites , I know some sites u need an outrageous security deposit just to bid, some require witness mutilation of items purchased, besides that some of the lots seem to good to b true.

To clarify, I only bid at city, state, county, and school board auctions.

I don't bother with competing with professional (a.k.a. rich and always gonna win anyway) auction buyers. Actually, I've taken a break from it for now. I have decided instead to network more and get my friends, family, and people from work to bring me the stuff they don't want. For now, it's working.

+ the buyers premium+ the cost of transport+the cost of time and equip to tear it down+ cost up disposing of waste material its a looser bud. with the auctions out of hand these days. you may still find a nugget now and then but it will be just as hard as finding a real gold nugget. just my .02

I hear ya on the ridiculous auctions. My single best government auction score was 1,254 lbs of copper for $310 bucks. Came from a Utah IRS auction.

After I stripped it, it came in at 1,029 lbs.

Sadly I recycled it when copper was low. ($1.80/lb #2) I didn't know any better at the time. Made $1,400 for 2 days work though, so it worked out.

Never again have I come across a scrap auction that wasn't out of control. Sometimes wonder if mine was a total fluke.
