So I haven't gotten much actual cleaning of my scrap done this week b/c all I see is a huge mound of plastic. I decided to focus on looking for a plastics buyer this week. Finally got a nibble on one and they seem interested in buying my MIXED plastic! Hopefullly it works out and I'll let you know tomorrow. I know I can fill a dumpster with mixed plastics once a month at least, all from the auto industry, electronics and post consumer waste. Hopefully my persistence will land me something here as well. Wish me luck!

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

good deal, i have been thinking about a shredder and putting it all in gaylords and stacking them in the shed until i get an estimated 40,000 pounds that the buyers i have found want.(the site said must have a truckload or better or they are not interested, but if i can pickup plastic too it should not take too long.)

I have been searching for a buyer that would drop off a trailer/dumpster and pick up once a month(to begin with). I have been throwing a ton of it away and am pretty confident that I can at least meet that amount. Plus there is a subdivision, a trailer park and a small town right near me that does not have ANY recycling services so I could cash in there as well by picking up plastics and metals/electronics, maybe just do a weekly pick-up on saturdays. Too easy me thinks!

Good luck, Hypoman, hope it works out for you. If not, Intercon Solutions in the Chicago area buys plastic - don't know if they are close to you or if shipping would be worth it you can reach them at- interconsolutions.com

If you shred it, it has to be sorted first, you can not mix it. I have a guy by me that sells plastic to a recycler but he wont buy mine because he dosn't make enough money but he will take it off my hands. It's better than having to pay to dump it in the dump.

Wondering this too. I'm starting to negotiate with a buyer, and want to make sure I'm being offered a fair value.

it all depends on the type of plastic. ABS is around $120 a ton. I will be getting all types of plastic so I don't have the time/space/gumption to separate and store till I have enough of a certain type.

If I get 5-10 cents/lb I'll be more than happy! This company buys all types so we'll see.

Even 5 cents a pound is still 100 a ton, too bad at all for leftovers, think might have to start collecting plastic too. Can get all sorts of plastic for free, what bout poly ? the kind you commonly find water tanks made out of and also the drums that contain chemicals

throw it in a wood chipper and it will fit more efficiently in a 30 yard. the company that buys it is going to want it in a container anyway, and they will probably give you a better rate if its already chipped, since they have to chip it themselves before reclaiming it anyway.

I've been toying with that idea as well. So long as the blades are good and sharp, and the mouth is big enough for the plastic.

I get .5 cents a pound for my mixed plastic, non-chipped. I produce around 1200-1500 pounds a week of it. It's difficult to find a decent buyer but once you do, treat them well.
