    Professionalism helps

I have business cards, I use them when i have to, but most of my work doesnt require them. I was hosting/catering a mardi gras party a few weeks back and i ran into the mother of my old friend i grew up with. We started talking and naturally i explained how i was recycling. She ended up contacting me the other day and explaining that her boss needed a load of light iron removed from his business property. And he wanted to get paid for it.

This is where professionalism paid off. First of all i was prompt in following up with an extensive email explaining the practice of grading and all of my contact information along with permission to forward the email directly to her boss. He emailed me the next day and we set up a time about 3 hours later for me to come out and estimate the value. I handed him my card and explained my intentions. I was candid about the price of steel, the grade, the labor involved and my price. I also offered him the opportunity to split the ticket and he accepted. He seemed to like my approach because he gave me a confident "go-ahead" and we set the move for this Saturday. This will be a short run of about a half ton of sheet steel and there is no work to be done besides loading and unloading and a 5 minute drive up the highway. So i will take a nice personal load of material in, turn around and grab his, cash it in and then call it a day.

Between college, my full time salary, probation and XII step extras, its hard to find time to post, let alone scrap... but im in it to win it, and we go hard.
    We're the renegades of Junk!
