    A gift...kinda lol

    Got a call from one of the people I buy from and wanted to get another load out and sent to me (they send me whole server/towers) so I had to move things around to make room for the pallets I knew will be filling my building.

    Well I got 75% done with there pallets when I jumped into the pallets with the server an other mix units so I could get them check out to find out if scrap or not (pulled out some good things from time to time from them), well...I came by something I have never seen before, was or looked to be solid AL with a TON of screws and I saw two ports for antenna with really nice gold plating. The ports where a good half inch or so (will get some photos and show you as soon as I can) so they had me on edge and where on my mind all weekend....well first thing I did today was brake one apart.

    Ok the top cover was silver (after looking close and then check with acid..silver) so now I am like really...I'm having fun getting my tools and setting up. Well...40 screws later and the cover pops off.....solid silver on the inside....even the damm screws where silver!!!! So now I am like wow,....then I saw the board that came out of it...the board (back) is solid gold and the front is loaded with it. The boards them self are heavy but thin so that leads me to think that the gold plating is very thick but I did not check that. What I can say is the gold tested over 14k as the acid just sat ontop like water. So I jump up and take the other 4 apart and I end up with a nice set of boards and a ton of silver...around 14pounds of silver

    Now..the lid is plated but I do not think the parts on the inside are plated. Reason why I think this. This metal (al and silver) is very heavy for the size of AL so I think thats mostly silver weight.

    Silver = 10.49
    Aluminium = 2.70

    So....time to find someone with a gun so I can have it shot and fully tested.

    I have a nice acid testing kit. The bottles have like a eye dropper type lid on it and works great.

    Did I saw something wrong? Yea I know you where and I was just saying I have a test kit that I used but the kit I have will burn some of the melt and either change color or something.

    My gold kit will not melt gold unless its of a low K weight
    My silver kit will melt silver but will do one of two things. Turn blue if its not silver and its some other kind of metal...or turn blood red if silver. When I did the test it turned blood red.

    If it’s 60-75% silver it will turn a light green color

    But then again thats just my results
    It seems you are both testing with different reagents. Easy is testing with Schwerter's Solution and it looks like you are testing with plain Nitric acid.

    Patnor from the www.goldrefiningforum.com sells his own testing kits on ebay for good prices. -$3.70 + $1 shipping for a 20ml dropping bottle. He has them for silver, gold, palladium and nickel. Good prices and saves the hassle of making them yourself.

    If I recall you are in the business of buying precious metals in addition to the Escrap. How do you normally determine the purity before laying down the cash?

    Yes, anyone who can't wait should send alarm bells ringing.

    There is a few ways to go about it. Buying coins is very easy because you can look up the silver weight and no guess is needed. When it comes to rings or anything else...its pretty much a guess unless you have a xray or a gun to shoot it. Thats the reason silver coins will bring more than the same weight in rings.

    I have paid for it and so I don't need to wait to get back with them. They are a 2ed hand type company and I get all there e-waste. Now based on how this reads/refined they will get a nice little check (if you send something that you think is AL and it turns out to be silver we will pay the differences) I Know that its silver but I would like to get a read out of the metal as the gun will be able to tell you what metals are there and how strong the silver is even before I send it out.

    When I get something like this I like to acid test it, get the gram weight of it, shoot it to find out the %rate of X metals before I even send it off so I don't have to worry about someone telling me there was only X amount of PM metals I could turn around and tell them what was or was not there

    This whole thread is why I like to stick to Ferrous material. To many variables with gold and silver. You either make a whole bunch of cash or lose a whole bunch of cash seems like a crap shoot to me.

    It can be but you just have to play smart and use all the tools you have at hand.
