Personally the guy is dumb bleep bleeping moron. He should have purged the tank with exhaust from his truck. Or filled the bastard with water 100% and start cutting from top to bottom. Or even better. Haul it to the yard in one piece and let them deal with it.

Reminds me the day at my local yard. 20 lb barby tank fullll. Asswipe in the excavator with the pincher smacked it dead on with the claw. Tank shattered, shot over the fence and almost hit a car, Big plume of propane gas and here I am smoking a cig in my truck like OMFG.

I go in the office and they totally blew me off. We dont know what ya talking about, it was a tire that blew up...lol. F ing idiots at Weisman in scranton, Pa.

No idea why I still go there....o wait its because they dont bust my chops when I have a little plastic mixed in or wood...muHAHA~!!!

He mighta just been cutting the straps holding the tank in place.

    Even purged tanks explode.
Normally what happens is a cuts made to the edge of the tank (or drum) & what fuel that is still stuck in crevices boils & fumes,
    filling the tank with fumes
    & then it explodes.

I had a empty 55 gallon drum that used to be filled with a solvent & was cutting the lid off with a hammer & cold chisel with my earmuffs & glasses on.

At some point around the lid there was a light 'wump' & the lid lifted a bit & I kept cutting till I'd finished.

Then I noticed the small room I was in was a little warmer, so I felt inside the drum & smelt a burnt smell & the drum was warm.....

Pretty sure many of us have done or had something in the past that could have turned into a situation. I know I have and looking back some were stupidity or ignorance on my part. I feel fortunate to have all my toes, most of my fingers and my skin though rough is not crispy.
As mick said be safe and think about what we do every day.
As a driver I'm always sober, but my truck is always ready to get loaded

The theory of evolution. The stupid / weak die and the smart / strong survive.

He was obviously stupid for cutting a fuel tank with a gas powered saw and should be dead.

    Funny story time!

Guy and his buddies are ice fishing. He thinks it will be funny to light some dynamite and throw it to make a huge hole.
He throws the dynamite, dog runs after and brings it back thinking it's time to play catch.
Owner yells at dog. Throws Dynamite again. Away goes dog and brings it back.
Owner yells again at dog. Makes him sit and stay. Throws Dynamite again. Dog doesn't move so he turns around and starts talking to friend
Dog runs off again brings Dynamite back. Him and every one dies.

All he had to do was leash, hold or not throw a stick of Dynamite and every thing would have been fine. But the Darwin effect kicked in cause he was a moron and killed him. Just sucked that a dog and friend got caught in the mix.

Guess I may be an Idiot, I cant count how many old diesel tanks I have gone after with an abrasive saw but I always give it a sniff test. Sometimes when I read this stuff I am amazed I have survived this long.

assuming the story and pic are related that guy should be dead... wouldn't be the first time the media used a bogus pic.

No, the picture in the story was of the story. Our paper has its faults, but using a stock picture without crediting "file photo" isn't one of them.

I had a gas tank explode when i was cutting the straps off, i had already siphoned out the tank but there was still about a gallon in the bottom of the tank. My own fault because i did not have enough ventilation in the shop and the fumes built up under the car above the LEL. Had i had the doors open and had fans going it wouldnt have happened.
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE
