    today's score!

Got a call today from a new customer wanting to get rid of some refrigerant. Went over there and tested it, was all R-22. 450 pounds of it! I was in the process of working up a quote for him when he asked what this was going to cost him. COST HIM? I usually pay 2.00 a pound for it. Told him I would take it for free and he was so glad he gave me the 10 new tanks that it was in! So I saved 900 bucks in buying it and got 1300 bucks worth of new tanks to boot. Wish I could find more customers like that!

He was probably used to someone stiffing him to haul it away, that's why he was so surprised.

Joe, when you say "used" do you mean reclaimed from a non-burnout system? Last I dealt with buying/selling refrigerant was as a purchaing agent 15 years ago, we had to pay around $0.20 a pound to have it "taken" from us after we reclaimed from dead systems. I might be missing out on a good oppurtunity for myself. Thanks for any info.

DWJ, when I say used, I mean any refrigerant recovered from a system. Reclaimed refrigerant is a refrigerant that has been processed and tested to meet new refrigerant guidelines.

Thanks Joe, in the midwest reclaimed and recovered are both used in the same context. I looked at some records, and by 2003 we were getting a $0.18/pound credit for clean R22.
