    jackpot

got probadly 3000 pounds of tires and rims given to me tonight, only had to drive 1 mile round trip, and the old boy paid me $75 to take em. Can't wait for the next trip to the yard, my guy pays shred price for em!

I bet you getting 200 to 250 or so as that's what dealer pricing is most times.

Don't blame you...I had a guy down here who was buying the tires as he would cook them down to make diesel out of them....but he stopped doing it lol....dont know why but he went back to buying it at the pump

Wow wish my yards would take them. Here they charge a $20.00 fee per piece for tires on rims, cars etc. The upside is they take the bare rims as #1 steel.

I think most yards are taking steel wheels as #1 now. My yard will let me fill a car up full of tires as long as they are on the wheel. If I have a wheel with no tire, it makes #1.

Rims + Tires = shred? :-O..... I need to talk to some people where I'm at and see what I can do to get that

I love those jobs where someone is happy to pay to get rid of things that I can make money on!

I know there is money in tire recycling, Its just a very well kept secret and i'm trying to learn it lol. I have contacted the companies that grind, shred etc asking how much you need in order to be able to sell them and i get no answer. The answer probably involves truckloads per month

Shred is $200 here in kansas city. The smaller towns in ks theres less or no competition so they pay alot less. You giving up the alloys with tires for shred, just the steelies id assume? There is definitely a volume game going on here the get premium prices, like anything else. I found a local guy i outsource my tire/wheel breakdown work to, he charges $7 each and provides disposal of the tires for free if necessary. That way i have a nice stack of clean aluminum wheels. I just throw the tires/steel wheels that are not resellable back into the car when i sell if for shred.

that works if your going to sell them for scrap, why scrap out good alloys when you can resell them

Good point... I rarely get any alloy wheels that are good for anything but scrap though. On set did make me wince though, some nimrod welded a couple five-spoke Cragar wheels for part of a livestock feeder, I almost cried.

Edit: I just looked them up, they were Cragar 61C's.... I just cried again. :-P
