Piston pump from either 1917 or1911

Picked it up last week and finally got to it and it works. The plugs and screen aren't there though. I know some of you are interested into old items and if I can get pictures up I will later today. The numbers on it are 7j1-0092 and the only other thing for a manufacturer that I found were the initials C R., the full date is 12/9/11 or 17.

In my best Lumbergh voice "um yeah, if you wouldn't mind showing a picture, that would be great. All right?" I for one would love to see it.

Now that's cool. Are you going to keep it? If not, ebay might give you more than scrap. I love this old stuff so much but in all the years of scrapping I've yet to find something really old...

The only thing is I have no Manu. just the 2 letters and that number. So I wouldn't even know how to post it or anything. Can't find info on it from what I have. I have tried the dates the numbers and the letters.

Sounds to me that you have yourself a water feeder pump from a steam engine.

Early domestic refridgeators used a belt driven compressor such as the one you have in your picture. The refriderant used was sulfur dioxide as freon had not yet been invented.

In all likelyhood if you dismantle it you will find that there is a valve seated on the top of the piston with another seated into the head, the givaway is that port located below the cyclinder head. Betwean the cylinder head and crankcase you will see a thin plate, this plate has a set of reed valves also.

This type of compressor does not make a good air compressor as the air has to pass throug the crancase which will eventually suck it free of lubricant.

You have an very early refidgeration compressor not a water feeder pump from a steam engine too bad as the later would have been worth some money.

Probably still worth a few bucks if it really is a Sulfur Dioxide compressor, call up Ricks Restorations! Maybe you'll get on TV!

Gus, I can't thank you enough!! I posted it on Craigslist and sold it in about an hour for $90. The guy that bought it was an old school hvac guy and wanted it for a display for his company in the customer service area. So I threw it up with a bunch of my other crap I want to get rid of but of course I put that in the title of the posting as well.
