    Crappy encounter today

Last week, I drive past a pile of demo debris next to the highway from a house after coming back from the scrap yard. As I drive past, I noticed some light tin, a stove hood fan in the pile. I stop, knock on the door, no answer. I go to the pile, which is literally about 8 foot from the lane of traffic and load up the stove hood. My father in law drives by and sees me and he stops too. He lives 3 up from this one. We BS for a minute then leave. Today, I notice another pile, same place. This time theres a ss sink on top of the pile. I stop, walk up to the door and a guy comes out. He looks and my truck and trailer and asks, "Were you here last week?". I tell hi, yes, I took the stove hood from the pile next to the road. He then says, "You stole my two tackle boxes, my friend saw your truck stop" and goes on to describes my trailer. I explained to him that first, I would never steal anything from anyone, second I dont fish, and third I ask why he was so stupid to leave tackle boxes next to a pile of demo 8 foot off the road, a highway none the less. We spoke for a few minutes longer and discover we have a great deal of mutual friends . I told him to do me a favor and call each one of the friends we have in common and ask them about my character. Long story short he says, "Nah, I dont think it was you, you dont seem like that kind of guy". WTF????? Oh, and as Im leaving, I grab the sink from the pile (with his permission of course) and notice he has five of his fishing rods in the same place he said his tackle boxes were when they were stolen. I hate these F'ing thieves!!!!

Some people just don't think. Also some people are just way too trusting of the general public and think that everyone will respect what is theirs. They don't seem to realize that A: there are a whole lot of dishonest people out there and B: that a trash pile is not a good place to store items you want to keep.

Last week we had bulky pick up days a few miles down the road. Five houses up from the start of the community "line" we have a guy working on his weedeater on the slope in front of the house 2 feet from the roadway where they put the trash every week. He must have decided to take a break because the second time I passed the house circling the nearby housing plan, he's no longer there but of course the tools & weedeater are...toolbox wide open.

All I could think was..."here's your sign"...and these will be the same people that can't believe it when someone steals something from them.

If my mower runs out of gas by the road, I won't leave it there for 3 minutes while I run back to the house to get the can.

I actually felt bad for the guy, once my blood pressure settled back down. I can fully understand his belief that he should be able to leave what is his, where ever the heck he wants on his property. Those days are looooooong gone though. Shame.
