I know of one one little lady who carries...after my grandfather passed away 2 years ago. I gave my grandma my S&W j-frame .357 mag. After getting her comfy with it. I keep it loaded with .38 specials(to cut recoil) for her. It never is more than 12inches from her. Now we all make sure to call before stopping by grandmas house.

I agree with JPete, times are getting worse and there is more competition then ever. I have changed my schedule several times so that we all don't run into each other. I live in a rural area so it takes time to develop a steady stream of scrap or ewaste. As soon as I can I will get away from dumpster runs and street grabs as a rule. Its getting confrontational because of the economy.

Baseball Bat in cab and tailgate of truck. Never needed it but It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
It's very competitive around these parts but most of us all get along (8 scrapyards and 3 steel mills here).
    However, there's jackasses everywhere.

Plenty of competition around here. All the local appliance stores and local trade people (plumbers) have people they give the old stuff to. A few days ago I seen 2 seperate trucks picking through the metal at a curb not far from my house (somebody moved and tossed all the old junk out). Anything I leave out on trash day that is reusable or metal gets picked up in under an hour.

Anybody in around my area needing a bunch of Aluminum scrap let me know (have a bunch of window screens from before we got all the windows replaced and some aluminum gutters that need gone).

I dabbled in ewaste from time to time cleaning out the junk from lots I purchased or cleaned out from other collectors. Mostly I find it interesting and I run into scrappers all the time in my computer collecting hobby. Too much competition to make much money out of it around here anyway.

Awhile back I had a bunch of metal that I threw out in the dumpster next to my building, (this was before I started scrapping steel).
I was prepping all my other stuff to take to the yard the next day and at the time, for whatever reason, I had no interest in keeping these excess pieces of steel that i would come across.

later that night,, around 11:30 or so, i was taking out the trash and i saw a guy hurriedly digging threw this dumpster, taking all the steel I had discarded and throwing it in the back of his truck.

After that, I never threw another piece of steel away again.
