First trip to the steel yard

Yes. I have been a scrapper for sometime, but Saturday was my first trip ever to the steel yard.

My truck and trailer are fully functional and legal. I am now able to take the loads into the yard that I have been hoarding. First load was right at 1260 pounds. There were a LOT of computer towers in there and I wanted the room. many were stuffed with discarded cdrom drives and such that I had removed the boards, but there were a lot of empty ones as well. The next 2 loads should be a lot higher in weight.

Got 10 cents a pound, so $126 for the load. Next one goes in on Tuesday. Should be heavier. My scrapping buddy and I had a great time doing this. I will enjoy the space that is now freed up for other things that the new local yard will be buying, namely lowgrade boards.

Scrapping just got better, and my buddy and I were celebrating coming into full scrapperdom.

We loved the giant magnet unloading the trailer for us. Too cool!

While there is more money in the non-ferrous, I love hauling shredder steel. Made two runs one day last year here in NC for a total weight just over 2 tons. I sell some in Vero Beach and Fort Pierce when I'm down there as well. Where did you haul your steel? I usually go to Mr.Scrap in Vero. Been selling some non-ferrous at Liberty in Fort Pierce. The magnet is cool!

I've never been to a yard that uses those magnets, that has to be so cool to see! Congrats!!
