Today In 1 dumpster I found:
A vacuum (the cord broke at the base so they threw it away. still works. And they kept the cord and wrapped it up for me
    2 monitors and 1 tower
    Microwave
dvd player and a small tv.

Good score for 5 min of, hurry my ass up and get the goods before anyone else sees me!
You should probably search the thread on the dangers of dumpster diving. It's ok as long as you don't get a scratch, but any injury in a dumpster have far reaching implications, and here is the million dollar question, is your health and the enormous risk worth it?

I'ts funny seeing old posts show up again.
I posted this 2 years ago, when I still had a lot to learn, and I've learned a lot since. (always can learn more)

I realize there can be risks, but that was a good way to get scrap. I never did it much, I never got over the paranoia.

I agree, people should be very cautious and courteous when dumpster diving. There are treasures to be found in peoples junk, and I say go get it if you can! Keep it out of the landfill. Gotta start somewhere.

This is the thread you were referring I believe:

I love diving in dumpsters, curb shopping, all of it. I love finding goodies for nothing, and saving our country's resources from the landfills.

I got yelled at by a homeowner once. Just once - i was taking a broom and wicker chair he'd tossed. I don't know what his problem was. Maybe in the past, someone else left a mess. But otherwise people seem glad and relieved when I take their items. I think people feel guilty about throwing away perfectly good items. As they should.

As for reaching in dumpsters, sometimes I feel weird about it at a new location. After a while it gets more comfortable. I even have a stick with a hook on the end, for turning over those bags of diapers. I can find something to scrap or resell in almost any dumpster, anywhere.
