Just back up your truck and hop in, chances are your dirty and look like a bum anyway, besides your not gonna see these people again.

I once had a minister caution me about taking things out of dumpsters- he was concerned that I could get into trouble. The funny thing was that he was there dumping stuff himself and the dumpster didn't belong to his church. My experience is people get more angry when you are filling up their dumpsters than when you are emptying them out.

Many people are also happy to see that an item will get another use. Often, it's not people you would even expect to be recyclers - just people who hate waste as much as many of us do.

Dumpsters can be a treasure trove I just don't even look around . You know I have pulled 100's of pounds of copper wire from mixed trash Dumpsters. Once it happens, you wont care it's money . At this time I can do a superman pose with my stomach resting on the Dumpster rim Dumpster diving is great exercise

A long time ago when I was just starting out, I entertained the idea of checking out some local dumpsters. I am a few blocks away from a large university and there are several apartment complexes near me. I stuck my head in the opening to check one out and a huge Raccoon made it clear that this was not my dumpster. Just be careful, they are faster than they look.

I love dumpster diving, it is kind of like playing a scratch off ticket, there is a bit of suspense-your not sure whether it will pay off or not. Except that dumpsters pay off many more times than scratch tickets!

I always tell people "Hey, if you were throwing some garbage away and you saw a ten dollar bill in the trash can, would you consider grabbing it?" Most people say yes. I see dumpster diving/curb shopping as a way to be independent and resourceful, traits that you should have pride in.

I am laughing my ass off. I know how you feel but I have made a ton of money scrapping. Forget what people think, they dont pay your bills or provide for your family. It takes a realman or woman to scrap, that means we can turn trash into cash and me and my family is living the high life.

i agree with a lot of folks on here, i just don't care anymore. i work full time and take a load in during my lunch breaks. co-workers sometimes make comments but i don't give a #$^%*. I keep tools and work boots in my truck so after 5 i can scrap. wil be glad when i don't have to work for the Man and can do this full time. i care about the environment and care about feeding my family but don't care about what people say.

I don't mean to post to much , but scrapping as a whole is a learning experience .Financial gain is a matter of opinion - as for some $300 per week is fine for some $1000 and up is needed - and up can be as high as the sky. The fact is $100 - $200 per week is not hard for me . So if I have another job going I also know I can make scrap happen. All in All what I have learned will benefit me any place I go. Any way dumpsters if you look you find - permission is some times needed - most times not.

Scrapping keeps me traveling America. Every new town is a challenge and there is usually something to see there. (Except Bogalusa, if you dom't need to be there, don't be there)

Mahatma Gandhi Once taught a lesson in waste to his son he told him to find a pencil in the garbage his son found a pencil that was 1 inch long , Then Mahatma Gandhi told his son to write a story about waste with that pencil

Dumpster diving is my replacement for bass fishing. Once my wife called me while I was in a dig. She asked "what are you doin?" I said "honey, I'm goin thru the big D and I don't mean Dallas."

Dumpster diving is AWESOME!!! You're getting free money and saving the planet at the same time. People that judge you in a negative light for it can go to hell!

    I found a WW2 Japanese Officer's ceremonial sword in a dumpster.
    I sold it for $800.00.
Here's the key: Be quiet, and leave it cleaner than when you got there.
