    Question for NC scrappers

Is there a permit required to haul non-ferrous metals in the state, similar to SC? NC Statute 66.11.1 alludes to the fact, but I can't seem to pin it down. Any help would be appreciated. Also going to check with the local sherriff's dept.

    Permit Required?

I am a scrapper in upstate SC. I have never heard of having to have a permit to carry non-ferrous metals. I have been scrapping everything I can lay my hands on for about 3 years now and I have never been asked if I have a permit to do so. Unless you are talking about the permit you get at the police station, however, that permit is just for ID reasons ( to help police track down thieves ).

I could of course be wrong. LOL. It happens all the time, or so it seems.

I read somewhere in a list of crazy/new scrap laws that it is illegal to transport more that 25 lbs of copper without providing proof of ownership.I keep meaning to ask the next police officer I talk to, but havent had the chance yet.
