    Best day in a while

Started out the day by running over to Trails End Recycling. I asked if anyone on here had heard of these guys - I heard crickets chirping. So I decided to run out there to see what they were like. Huge operation. Less than 5 miles from my house. Never heard of them until just a few days ago - and they've been there for a couple of years now.

Long story short - I wanted to see what their prices were on low-grade boards since I've started a small mountain. Every time I look at it the music from Close Encounters runs through my head. Their pricing on pretty much everything is very competitive except in two places - copper #1 and #2 and computer processors. When you consider that I can practically walk there - their copper prices are ok. I'm still gonna need to send out processors though.

Once I'm done there, I head off to pick up a modem from Freecycle. Normally I wouldn't have bothered since it was just the one item - but it was on the way to an surplus auction I won.

It was 225 miles round trip to pick it up. I went in my Accord, which get about 25 mpg. Gas was $3.42 this morning when I filled up, so my gas cost was $30.78.

How do you think I did?

I don't want to sound like it's not good stuff but , On a pure dismantle and cash in , i don't think you have the $40 covered I have to assume you are looking to resell ? I feel there is potential to find those items free on trash day !
Consider 225 miles is 4 to 5 hrs driving then you have dismantle time I hope you have a way to make 100 profit - as a simple load of mix on trash day can pull decent $$ in a few HRS
    -------------------------------------
Now it might be that you can get more money for scrap near you , around here no real money paid for good boards . I think I heard in Nevada plastic from tvs is worth .7 a LB

3 TVs, 2 Pentium II systems, 3 Pentium III systems, a flatscreen monitor, an old-school dictaphone machine, a big metal timeclock, 4 printers and a water filter. The motherboards alone should get close to $40 scrap - they're big and heavy. Driving actually relaxes me - so I don't count that as down time too much. I only spent 3-1/2 hours driving it. I normally spend 2 to 2-1/2 hours driving to and from work anyway - this wasn't that much longer. This was pretty much open highway with a 70 mph speed limit (kinda like a lot of Texas).

Considering I can only do this part-time, I think it turned out to be a pretty good day. I got to relax and take a fun little drive, and picked up some stuff to boot. Not sure about where you are - but you don't find computers or TVs out on trash day around here very often at all. The trash companies won't take them and the dump charges. The entire Austin area is really environmentally friendly.

I don't know if I'll make $100 on it, but I figure I'll double my money.
