    Value of CDs/DVDs/Blu-Ray discs

Does anyone know if there is a market for the discs themselves? From my research the reflective part is made of silver or gold and on rewriteable discs the reflective part is an alloy of silver, indium, antimony & tellurium.

Obviously the bulk of the weight would be polycarbonate - but are they worth enough to make it worthwhile to separate them from the shred pile?

From where I am they aren't worth too much. I can't remember the prices too well. What I'd do in your shoes is keep them separate, then inquire a yard about them. Some yards consider them as plastic. If they accept then inquire their prices for them. If you think the price is worth it then just scrap them as a separate thing UNLESS they count them as plastics. If that's the case keep them together with the plastics. I think there was a thread about this under the "non metal recycling" page (its on the main menu a little ways down).

I dont know too much about recycle value for cds and dvds but, there is a market for resell value. I can sell DVDs w/case and CDs w/case to my local pawn shop for $2-$4 each. And there are still lots of people that collect DVDs believe it or not, that might be interested.

The disc are plastic #7 and the jewl cases are plastic # 6 (according to link below)
