    It's the compressor. I'm pretty sure it helps cool the air. Don't quote me on that, but there's a lot of copper in them.

    Compressors do just that.They turn the freon back into a liquid.The freon flashes through the coil as it removes the heat and the freon becomes a gas.The compressor turns this back into a liquid and sends it back through the coil again and the process is repeated,well let's just say a bunch!
