So there's a lot of threads on maximizing the value of a scrap car but I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for.
I've got an old Mercedes diesel car. Engine, auto trans and radiator are pulled and sitting outside the car and no good for resale as working parts. The engine is mostly undressed with alternator and starter and whatnot sitting off to the side too.
My question is would a core buyer be interested in these old parts and will they give me more than scrap value? How can I find a core buyer? Yellow pages doesn't turn up much but maybe I'm searching wrong.
Or should I open up the alternator and separate the copper and everything?
Or should they go as electric motors and would that mean they go by weight or by the piece? The starter seems huge and heavy...
I plan to pull any aluminum off of the block, then scrap the block as what? should I drop the block back into the car body and take it in like that or keep the block and trans out and scrap them separate?
I plan to pull a few parts that I think I can sell on the Mercedes forums but most of it will have to go to a recycler / core buyer. I've got plenty of time and like I said it's mostly taken apart already so I'm trying to figure out what I should do next.
