    extension cord brass pin question

    hey, i yanked out a bunch of the conductor pins from all the extension cords i scrapped, then i noticed that while most where yellow, some where shiny steel colored. are those actually steel or just an off color of brass?

    plated brass... you can always take a file to scratch into them and find out whats under the "shiny" bit

    I've got some too, wasn't sure about them since the magnet didn't stick. How does plated brass go for usually, as compared to yellow brass, for example?

    you will need to ask your yard... mine buys it just like yellow brass

    Anytime I find plated brass I always hit it with a grinder so the people at the yard can see that it is yellow brass, no questions. As long as there is no steel atached to it it goes as yellow brass.

    yea, nickel or chrome plated brass just like some shell casings
