haha, i like that "free shipping" I was looking up some old printers today and saw one that sold for $0.99, and it had offered "free shipping". It wasn't any lightweight printer either. I wonder how they paid the "free shipping"?

I knew a guy that did Ebay using USPS so much, that after a certain number of packages, the USPS gave him a bulk rate. At that point he could ship for free, knowing his bulk rate was cheaper than paying each item. I don't know the exact numbers though.Originally Posted by Bear

I figure shipping in with the price of the item and then offer free shipping. Cost for me is the same but using the "F" word seems to push customers over the edge.

I would guess the weight of these at the most would be 7lbs! Shipping med flate rate box costs $11.35...
So if these were all steel, zinc or alum...
7 lbs steel = $.56
7 lbs zinc = $.70
7 lbs alum = $4.20
$32.00 - shipping = $20.65 not bad at all! And - Ebay fees of course!

What is good to see is that there are 7 different people bidding. It is one thing to have a couple of people interested (hit or miss) but that seems to have a wider appeal. Good to know, thanks.

I agree. This whole "steampunk" things is interesting. I may have to go through my brass bucket and pull out all of the gears that are in there and list them on Ebay. The gears came mostly from old appliance timers.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

I was liquidating a bumch of stuff for my brother-in-law a couple years ago that he got from an old jeweler/watch repair estate. While I was figuring out the whole mess I discovered the steam punk thing. It was especially nice when I got to the last lots of just a bunch of gears, springs etc. What would have been 10 cents scrap brass value brought 10 to 15 dollars on e-bay when you place the words steam punk in the listing.

I put out a buy offer to local yards for the valve handles at 20 cents per lb. I now have over 10 lbs of these to sell on ebay. I don't get the zinc/al ones as they sell for more as scrap, but they are happy to toss all the cast iron ones in a bucket for me.

A more then scrap thread.
People scrap many small things that are worth more to arts and crafts folks.
Arts and crafts is like a drug to most. A escape that they enjoy far more then watching paint dry.
I myself prefer the escape of the artist that's not starving.
If you can afford your hobbies and maybe make a bit on the side, that's a PLU$ for sure.
