But you did ask for her advice asandahl, as well as for everybody elses on this forum, by posting your questions here. You didn't ask for my advice either, but you're getting it. MisScrap was right on target, and was definitely not the rude part of this discussion. MisScrap merely stated the same sensible facts you will see on probably 50% of the threads here.
Actually, I was hoping for 10 or more "to, or not to, break down hard drive" threads.
type "hard drive board" into the search box, you will see the top three thread results (other than yours) are directly to 3 of our top hard drive and hdd board buyers, and their extensive threads pertaining to your very questions. It really wasn't a serious matter asandahl, but at this point, your apology would certainly be better directed elsewhere
Dont take written text so literal. A lot of the old timers on this forum and some of the new ones say things in jest that come off real bad when read in text. If you or anyone has a question on escrap stuff feel free to send me a PM if you dont want to post it or even call me. My phone number is posted in the buyers thread. I always have my cell phone with me and I am willing to answer any and all questions the best I can.

[QUOTE=asandahl;110223]You should get a little thicker skin...I did not mean to offend you...just when it comes to scrapping electronics...you learn the grades of material by actually doing the work for yourself... You can ask for everyone elses opinions but that is what you will have...a bunch of opinions! However if you did it yourself..you would have facts...which in my experience always work better.
The question regarding hard drives has been asked hundreds of times in plenty different ways...that is why so many others had asked you to use the search box....the annoyance came in when you argued and continued to ask questions that have already been answered!

In regards to the beer....it was the lords day and I was actually working...trying to clean up after the hurricane... I do want to wish you the best in this industry however...as I feel you could use it...take care and Happy Scrapping!

Thank you Bear! I may have come off a little harsh (after working a 32 hour work shift trying to clean up after the storms...and pick parts of my roof off the floor reading another thread on the same question asked so many times...) but that is the industry...it's not for the faint of heart...or thin skinned...but they'll learn...one way or another
yeah good for you asandahl, don't let anyone dictate you how you go about these forums.
He's gotten my personal apology ben, for my having ever gotten involved
IMO it takes about 30 seconds to remove the board, and toss it a pile of hard drive boards, another 15 or 20 seconds to throw the rest of the hard drive to the aluminum pile. Time is money. (I asked this along time ago and came up with it was never gonna be worth shipping 100-200lbs of hard drives whole.)
That depends what size the drives are. I did the break down on my buyers thread. Anything 40gb and higher on average you will get way more than scrap value from them. Misscrap just sent me a box of 20 drives and 3 1gb ram sticks and got paid almost $70 for them. You can fit about 30 hard drives in a flat rate box for $15.
Just an update, changed the pricing for "free" shipping and someone bought the next batch for "B.I.N." price. $12.95 , It just keeps getting better. I'm glad something is going my way.
