Dumb rookie power cord question.

Sirs and Madams. I've been hunting for the correct answer with no avail so I turn to you, oh wise scrappers of the world. When clipping a cord off of, let's say a lamp, do I need to also cut of the end that plugs into the wall? If so, should I keep that plug? Is there seperate value in the plug? I am not going to be stripping the wire so now perhaps you can see my consern.

I leave them on as my yard pays $1/lb for all wire(unless they have brass prongs then I yank those puppies off with a pair of pliers) depends if your yard has different grades for wire and if they want them clipped.

Aren't they all brass? The silver colored prongs are coated brass.

i'm wondering if they could possibly be worth messing with. As #2 Ins they pay about a $1, or you can pull all those little rascals, and maybe get $2 ? If those figures are anywhere near market, you'll only be getting a $1 for all that work ?

I leave them on, the only ones I cut off are the gold connector ones from computers. I have never seen a plug that was not brass.

My yard wants them cut off. i save them up to pull the prongs for stuff to do over the winter

I cut them off becuase my yard said that is what they want.
Checking with your local yard would be your best bet.

I cut them off and get 1.20 a pound for the wire and. 15¢ a pound on the plugs. Untrimmed I get. 65¢ a pound.

Me either but the other day one of my yard guys was telling me the cable ends weren't brass though they clearly showed yellow when ground. He also told me that not all power cord ends were brass and I had too many mixed in with my brass even though they clearly showed yellow. *Sighs* Some days it seems better to stay in bed lol.

To the OP, mine pays 75 cents a lb with plugs left on and 75 with plugs cut off so its up to you. sometimes I feel like yanking the brass out of the plugs and sometimes I dont.

that sounds pretty frustrating.
I was stopped at the scale for sort of the same thing. I had about a pound of prongs mixed in with my other brass and the guy working the scales told me they were steel and not brass...
I had to take them out of the bucket and explain to him what they were, showing him more closely. I ended up getting a second opinion from someone else at the yard and of course sold them as brass.
it dosnt matter what color they are, they all go in the brass bucket.
