happy if youw wanting to remove gold pins from motherboards quickly the fastest method ive seen it to use a heat gun on the back side of the board and then pull it off the other side with pliers, works great for ribbon cable connectors and the like
Do you have a video? Sorry I'm a visual learner lol. I can try it, but seems like a waste of power, for the heat gun, to be using it.

Let me take a crack at my opinion on cutting some of the gold fingers off of motherboards. I havnt had to deal with this yet as the scrap side of buying material from forum buyers hasnt taken off yet. Anyway if you look at this board you will notice it has gold fingers. What you might not notice is that it doesnt have the IDE pinned connectors on it. I know this picture is of a newer board and it does have the sata connectors. BUt it was one of the first ones I came to on a search for a picture. What you will also notice is this board does not have pci slots with the gold conectors in them as well. So in my opinion if you cut the gold finger off of this board you would devalue it.

Thanks PTS....I see the point of why the board would be devalued since it was made without the other parts, honestly I didnt even notice until you pointed it out. Just another wrench in the works as far as different boards that we are going to come across.

Yea that is a mini itx motherboard they are not going to be that common, theres no pcie/pci slots so that makes for a pretty limited computer. And only 2 ram slots for laptop style ram. Looks like scrap to me.

not all buyers inspect/devalue boards by the way, i ship mine to my buyer, his reply after he gets em: look good keep more coming

Your right that it makes for a limited computer. hence the gold finger conectors. It connects to a riser card that has the PCI slots in it for the video card and what not usualy. And I agree most buyers do not inspect the boards very closely. When you going on volume if a few pounds of boards are added into the mox of a couple thousan pounds it is not going to throw your bottom line off by that much. For the smaller huys like myself its a way different story.

    getting back to this post

not sure why If You cut the fingers off the bottom of the board thats on the edge will make this board a low grade.

lets say there wasn't that finger on the board along the edge.. it would be consider chi boards anyway.. but why low.

I'm trully confused. so.. is it CHI Boards, High Grade, btw, its small socket, but I know for sure its NOT LOW GRADE.

Seems like a lot of trouble to go through all my boards, and remove them while using a heat gun. Doesn't seem very cost effective...

Also! What is the best way to remove the gold pins? I have Robogrip pliers I could just snap the whole pin assembly off, or can I use needle nose pliers to remove them? Seems like a pain to do so, because I would have to remove each, one by one.
Have you found a buyer that's interested in these crystal oscillators?

I believe I found in an old post there is silver, platinum, and palladium in these. I could be wrong, though. Happy has sent me on a chase for a needle in a haystack looking for who buys these. Only thing is, as I dig through the haystack (the SMF archives) I find needles I didn't know I was looking for and get sidetracked. I'll get back on task tomorrow regarding the crystal oscillators/timers/units, and let you all what I find.

Cool, I do the same thing about getting sidetracked on here all the time. The search button is very useful, and not only that just getting lost in the valuable archives that hold so much knowledgeable information

Edit: Why can't we thanks our own posts?

So, Happy, I haven't found the buyer, yet. I'm looking though, and hot on the trail. By any chance is it someone who toll refines a specific material?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets distracted while searching for stuff. The knowledge you find when your not seeking it is one reason I love these forums. Learn something not just everyday but every time I search. lol.

Sirscrapalot - The reason it took so long to stop the Korean policeWARaction was cause someone kept bringing puppies to the negotiations.

Keep looking DWJ, I really don't have the time right now to look, maybe reread this thread or search for the crystals using the search box above or a google search. I only post in threads that have relevance to my own knowledge, I want to learn more, and threads I want to go back to, to learn more.

So what I'm trying to say is that after 370 posts or more it is going to take me a while to figure who, where, what the buyer is. For now I will just keep accumulating and if the price is greater than the current price of mobo's they come on then I will be ahead of the game.

I dont even know what "toll refining" is???????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????
