Has anyone taken any old VHS video cameras apart? I bought 12 of them at an auction for $1.20. I figured there may be something decent in them.

Theres a few wires and some stainless. Not sure if anything would be gold plated.
You'll make your money back, depending on the units you may make a bit more... but they don't have much in them. The real value in items like that (to me) is the quantity of screws they contain. I keep, organize, and store them as they are already a handy finished product. Also, if you're one that keeps the boards, don't forget to toss them in your board bin. Most of the metals I've found in the VHS video cameras were small copper wires and stainless steel - not much else.
looks like they'd have a decent lense. Anybody ever tried Ebaying those ?
I just pick them up today, lots of extra batteries and chargers. I'll take some pictures of my breakdown and maybe I'll try the lenses on ebay.
Haha, this reminds me of 1984. I was working offshore out of New Orleans, had been by the office there, and still had a day to spare, so I went to the World's Fair. It was one of their slowest days excepting for Jimmy Carter's visit, which I found to be a good act to follow, as the area behind their wake was rather vacant as if in a vacuum.
Anyhow, I saw one poor fella lugging one of those heavy asked cameras on his shoulder, with a heavy asked battery in a carrying case strapped over his other shoulder. He was a sweat case now, and had a wife and several kids running all around him. Man I sure felt sorry for that fella
oh ya I usually get 1in5 average with a nice gold cpu forget what its called but its in my the lens thing that processes the pics all different of course but get copper if old from tiny tv tubes all the gears and steel and belts lens depending on how used and good they are not a lot all the time on a single one but get um together in lots
