I've done it. Not at all worth the time. Cut the cord & leverite.

i have time so thats not a issue, is most of them glass and plastic?
We've found the lenses are often worth a lot of money. Not sure of scrap value, but be sure to check those lenses!
I've thought several times of mentioning lenses here, but wasn't sure if it might just be one of my "things", and I've never really done much with them. I once had a thing about speakers. When I'd trash an old radio, TV, or anything else with a speaker, I'd save that speaker, although I rarely used them for anything fancy, and most eventually went the way of the old shoe lace.
Apparently there's something about the lenses now, from old rifle scopes, photo enlargers, copiers, etc, which have fairly well refined lenses, I have a number of different sized lenses around, due to my new "thing" about saving them. Even some lenses from an OLD big screen TV, that had been dumped beside a road in TN. I grabbed the speakers ; ) and saw those lenses, a red, blue, and green one, which I took home and stored away in the old barn there, thinking about one day making a giant color carousel(such as you see under a Christmas tree) to light up the sky with colors one cloudy night around Xmas ; )
I've got some type of projector too, which I haven't much tinkered with, but am saving it for a "rainy day", when I'll be checking out the lenses in it too ; )
Please allow me to update my previous comment! I've just checked with our ebay department because I know we've sold a ton of old projectors that way. I thought it was the lense that had value, but it is actually the lamps, not the lenses that make money. That said, my ladies suggest you sell as whole units, even if they are "not working/for parts." You will be surprised how well they sell, as the lamps inside are hard to come by and people are constantly looking for replacements!
I get these at local auction when they drop to 25cents I love them myself I have never been able to do a resale on these older ones but new ones can do a lot myself highest was $50 but for break down its nice and fast and money you got motor . which have not resold yet but mirrors and lens I sell in lots as well as the bulbs which I make sure to get .50each in lots of 6-24 but do sell a few around her for $2 when I can. cords and steel as well I have sold 2 of the arm pieces for $3each but mostly go in steel pile. also the glass in nice to sell and yes the lamps as units sell fast. I myself have had not luck on ebay selling whole ones on ebay because of shipping but lots of parts are great
Timely thread. I'd just gotten a projector for the first time - Sharp XV100. Ran it on eBay. Only found one, though, and a lot better than this one.Still might try selling parts.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Speaking of TV lenses, here's an interesting reuse:
Mine is an InFocus LitePro 730, with a damaged serial connector end on one of the cords. Ebay has em from around $80 to $275, with one sold, in the completed listings, for $13.50 + shipping, so, I'm still kinda thinking "solar scorcher" ^^^ yep ; )
The schools around here have gone to electronic over head projectors that hang from the ceiling. I would diffidently resell those on ebay if they work. There is a massive one in one of the buildings around here that has to weigh at least 150 LBS made by Sanyo. Here are the kinds I am talking about:
Smaller ones:
Largest Ive seen (Its a big pic, so just a link):

The old projectors that used clear sheets of plastic to project their image are pretty much just shred. Just cut the cord and move on unless you want to have some free mirrors.
