Trash Compactor - Can I use It For Something Useful Rather Than Scrapping It?

I picked up an older Kitchen Aid compactor the other day. It still works just fine. My plan was to separate and scrap, but started thinking it could be of more use, like maybe a serious aluminum can crusher. I tried, but it only crushes the cans about 50%. I can do a lot better by just stomping on a can.

If I can modify this thing to smash other scrap, I'm all over it. Anyone have any ideas?

I think most of those things just don't have enough muscle to be useful for most of our needs.

Maybe thinner plastics? Bottles and such?

Look at the four related threads at the bottom of the page. Your questions have been answered in those before. I think the general consensus it's not strong enough for scrap compacting use.

I'm going to use one for an apple grinder this year when I setup for making cider. Other than that, they really aren't worth much, and you wouldn't want to use a scrap one to grind apples for consumption.
