Rob, are these PCI or ISA sound cards?
If so, I think you are paying too much for each. Approx weight for one board, with the metal bracket attached,
4 ozs. Times that by 4 = 1lb
So, if u only buy at $1/card = $4/lb
Two of the major forum buyers are only paying out between $2.50 to 3.25/lb. Add shipping and you are losing
money :-( Hope my calculator is correct, lol.
btw, there isn't much one can 'refurbish' on a non functioning sound card. However IF some are high end cards
with lots of bells and whistle functions, they may be worth more than scrap to some E-bayers. (ebay = hassle)
Cheers and good luck
I'm guessing and hoping he means sound boards / mixers for a studio, not sound cards for computers. Unfortunately, I haven't taken any of those apart, so I can't advise on that. If they are going for decent money in working condition, I'm sure you can sell at least the knobs off of them
yes im sorry these are sound boards like from dj/pa/studio equipment and they don't work
they look like this but different shapes and sizes
If they are Mackie...you should get way better than scrap for parts/repair on fleecebay
I picked up a few that were easy fixes and brought some good chaching.
Do the research, list them with the best info you can.. history, do they power up, where they came from or were used, and if you make out well, ya owe me a steak dinner ;-)
sure ill buy you a steak dinner .but you have to drive down
The sound engineers I know always fix up their equipment and have good working knowledge of boards and how they work I would think if it is pro grade equipment you should do well in the parts that come off from it. I forgot the name of the plugs but their in the upper right and left corners of the mixer in the picture you provided they have three gold plated pins and I always sell them to the sound guys seems they wear out/ break down often. definitely some resale/parts value if you have the right stuff. good luck
Edit: A quick google search showed a audio recording school in PA as well as owl creek productions in west chester and patriot sound in lancaster. possible buyers and possible scrap contacts

There ain't nothing wrong with an honest days work. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.- Old Man
I have driven farther than that for a free meal ;-)
well your welcome too lol there is a outback around the corner
I doubt if there's any hi-grade in them, I think your looking at brown boards, myself I wouldn't pay to haul them away.

yeah I was thinking the same thing mech .but its coming in a large drop of so.im gonna open one or 2 up and see whats in them before I finalize price .im hinking at best there gonna be mid grade if any at all
If there are any sequencers/effects processors/etc those should have nice boards. The one in the stock image you posted has a lot of pots and probably no value if it is fried. I would say, pay 50% of shred, and you might get lucky and find diamonds in the rough.
ebay them, condition : for parts / not working
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE
ABSOLUTELY sell on ebay as parts unless they are really large and heavy (older ones weigh a ton).
You can even sell the knobs and faceplates as parts even if the whole thing is toast for good money.
If really large get an opinion on repair cost from a music store after checking used pricing to see if worth it. Even old boards can sell for several hundred....last resort is scrap.
Yep, I concur with jghilino and webuyselltradestuff...of course some of that depends on the brand. I've bought/sold pro audio and the good stuff is high dollar and people keep rebuilding them if they fail. Even the fair to middlin stuff is certainly worth more than scrap. I just bought a sound board yesterday that has a much higher value in parts than in complete condition ($350-400 complete vs $600-800 parted). I've had good luck clearing pro audio on CL too, and if its cheaper equipment, the small time musician hoping to play a few little gigs or just screw around will be interested.
The other really great th8ng about many older non digital boards is that fixing them is relatively simple....most people with some electronics training can replace capacitors and resolder pots or change out a jack. The guys in my old bank used to fix stuff like that all the time on amps...and really same with the 2 mixers I had. Moral if this story....even selling a "parts" or needs repair board will get you more than scrap...the th8ng would have to be completely hosed or ran over to go to the scrap pile. And trust me I understand....I dont mess with stuff that I will only make a few extra $$$ on...that stuff goes to the yard and I dont bother...ie not $50/hr in value for.my time then scrapped....the upside here is enough for your time.
