Well don't pack your bags so fast. The city is smart they want some one to pay them to demo this property for them, the amount of scrap they have there, is let's just say in dollars won't pay for the cost of a hotel stay, I think a fair price to do this Demo is 45,000.00

Good for you, though, for thinking big and sharing.

I have a question for you pros: How do you dispose of a 40,000 gallon diesel tank?

Put it in craigslist free section

Anyway, I would think it would have to be properly cleaned before cutting it up. There are companies that do this.

    Curb alert! 40,000-gallon diesel tank!

I bought a house once that had its heating oil in the ground and had to pay for a company to dig it up and haul it away. But that tank didn't need to be disassembled to be moved. For this big one, I was just wondering how it gets taken apart, since even if it's emptied, it will still contain flammable material.

That is the dumbest auction ever, and the sad part is that some idiot will pay for it. Even if it was free it would not be worth it.

Evidently 3 dumb people bid for the opportunity to lose their shirts! As us Georgians would say.."only in Alabama"! But then again I'm a transplanted yankee and they like us carpetbaggers even less.

In my hotshotting days, I took several gas tanks from 7/11 stores that were having them dug up because they were not selling fuel anymore (or having new ones put in). In each case the tanks were emptied and holes were put into the top part of the ends of the tanks. Then the fire marshall came out to certify they were empty, and we just strapped them down (after being loaded by a crane, approximate weight for each was about 10,000 lbs) on our 32ft flatbeds and hauled them to the scrap yard. All the scrap yard asked was that they be empty and have a hole in them. We were not given the tanks, we were contracted by a third party to take them to the scrap yard.

It looks like anything decent, like most of the electrics and cabling, has already been high graded.

Anyone know what did the plant's product was? It looks like it was old when Moses was an apprentice.

The boiler and insulated piping probably have asbestos insulation. The outside electrical transformers are old enough to be loaded with PCB oil.

I second 1956....the price to take this apart and clean it up will be in the 5 digits, probably 6 digits if there is much in the way of risky stuff like I mentioned.

It would be a fascinating place to spend a few hours in just wandering around and looking at the history. But that's about all.

    Jon.

    Current bid $32.50

I am ill equipped, but it does look like it could be fun for a few days. Too bad about liability issues, the city could just open the gates, turn a blind eye and let the residents go "Detroit" on it.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

Somebody paid $30k to do that job? Ouch!

Back then, at least prices were higher. But, still....
