My scrap yard buy keyboard and mouse at 0.08$ lbs, so I cut the cord and sold as is.
Don't pry apart every keyboard that you find! If you find an older model keyboard try removing one of the keys to see if it's a mechanical keyboard. If so (like a IBM Model M for example) they can be worth a lot of money. Mechanical keyboards are coming back in popularity for their tactile feel and durability compared to rubber dome keyboards.
A good way to see if the keyboard is mechanical is to listen when you press down the keys. If they make a click clack sound (for lack of a better term) when you press them down then you may be in luck. You'll want to remove one of the keys (gently!) and see if there is a mechanical switch underneath. If the bottom of the keycap is cylindrical in shape and goes down into a hole when you press the key then you have a boring old rubber dome keyboard that's basically worthless (although not always the case, but that's another topic in and of itself) and you can probably get rid of it.
Completely off topic, I apologize, but usurp, is that Phil Kessel for your avatar?
