Hey everyone, It's definitely been a while but now I'm back in the game! Just found a 50" flat screen in the dumpster and was wondering what the scrap value might be in it. The screen is completely shattered on the inside. The outside glass is still in tact. It turns on fine and the sound works but obviously no picture. I tried doing a search but nothing came up so sorry if this is a repost. Thanks everyone and it's good to be back!

The best way to find out is to just break it down and take it in. Then you can let us know the value.

Try searching eBay with the make and model with the word "board". It should bring up circuit boards for repairs of that model. Some go for quite alot more than scrap. I need a power supply board for a Sony Bravia.?

some boards can get as much as 50-60 dollars on. Local tv repair shops around here pay 40-75 dollars for tv/s in this condition just for the boards. Price would depend on make, model, size and condition.

So yeah I ended up breaking it down. It took about an hour but It's a 50" LGPS11 I still have most of the boards in tact that I have sitting aside right now and I'm taking the rest of it in in the morning to check that out. Inside I found a very small amount of copper, a pretty good amount of aluminum heatsinks are on the boards. I got a ton of steel from it as well. I think the steel on the back of the main panel may be stainless but it's crazy heavy. So I'll let everyone know what I got on that stuff a little later on.

We took one big screen(can't remember the name) apart and it had a hi-grade board inside with gold pins all over it.
Check them real close before you pitch them,,

if you read past posts on here...you will know that its better to sell it as it is and not scrap it. It may not be working but it could be fixed and or parted out..Look into that before you go ripping it all apart.

Yeah I looked in to that but since the screen was shattered it was beyond repair. I called a few tv shops and asked about it before I took it apart and they said the cost of the panel was more then the tv was worth so I should just get a new tv. I kept the tv stand, all the boards, and the power supply to sell separately since the only thing wrong with it was the shattered screen. So basically I only scrapped the steel out of it, the insulated wire. I got about 13 bucks from just steel yesterday and I'm pretty sure I got shafted on a lot of my other stuff because the total I made was 27 bucks (I only got .60/lb for my insulated wire and they counted my cans as cardboard just because I was using a cardboard box to hold them.) Unfortunately my yard doesn't tell how much they're paying you for everything until after you unload everything.
For those of you in the DFW area, I'm looking for a new yard that that's a little more honest. Any good recommendations? I live in Lewisville and right now I'm going to AAA Recycle.

wow they are going to pay you cardboard prices just because you put your can in the box? If thats the case use thier logic and take them a box of rocks.

Do a search on CL for the people who want to buy your LCD TV's that are broken, there's also a market for as is TV's on ebay but it's a bit of a hassle to pack and ship them.

I took apart a huge flat screen tv (literally the size of my truck bed). Fairly easy to tear down.. Attached to the glass was an aluminum heat sink the size of the entire tv, but had the glass glued to it. I haven't any easy way to remove it, any suggestions?

They are good and if you go into the office they will tell you what they are paying a head of time. Just keep an eye on the people by the two small scales as they will down grade scrap time to time so just ask them what they are grading it and you will be fine.
You are not far from me so all your e-waste scrap I will be more than happy to buy from you. I pay cash on the spot.

Thanks guys! Yeah EZ I actually do have some e scrap right now but it isn't a whole lot. Mainly high grade boards, RAM, a few PCI cards, and 5 or 6 motherboards from desktops. Think I should save up a little more before coming to you with it?

so these big 50in screen tv's, can they just be thrown in with the shred? I passed one on my way to sims metals but i was unsure if they would take it.

I seriously doubt it. There's more glass/plastic/wood than anything else in them.
